FMIC: TurboStreetFighter (Apexi) -VS- RX7Fashion (Spearco)?

http://www.turbostreetfighter.com/html/cooler.htm
http://www.rx7fashion.com/intercoolers.htm

I've read a few threads on the Fashion but couldn't find anything on the TSF FMIC, does anybody have one?

$400 for polished pipes? There's got to be more to it than that.

A few people said they didn't like the Apexi end tanks but didn't say why. Are Spearcos better?

The Apexi core is taller, the Spearco is thicker.

You have them in reverse the Spearco is the Turbo Street Fighter the Apexi is the Skyline core used in the RX7 Fashion. I would like to see some comparisions as well I think the RX7 fashion looks good but dont know how it performs. I think the pipes on the Street Fighter look terrible but again i dont know how it performs either.

ive heard the Fashion's endtanks are at too much of an angel, and distort flow. Dont quote me, as this is second hand info, someone with facts please post, though.

I keep hearing that, but I have it and haven't noticed any problems. I don't think anyone has any real numbers to show pressure drop so it's all speculation. I'm going to rig up a dual pressure gauge and some temp sensors to get some real data on cooling and pressure drop.

mandrel bent

I dont see how the bends affect flow any. The TSF FMIC has the same bends, just about. I thought people didn't like the end tanks because they looked small or skinnny rather. Pressure drop I can see from distance but if the piping is mandrel bent, then I don't see it.

I know the SMIC has less pressure drop but is subject to the heat of the engine bay and has a HP and/or boost limit.

Both of these are the same design and would be subject to the same pressure dop, so the question is: Of these two FMIC's, which has the better core?

(yes, I mixed up the core's but I couldn't edit the title of the thread)

Does "ANYONE" have the TurboStreetFighter" FMIC?

I think both of the ICs you have choosen are good and it comes down to fit/ease of installation and which one is in your price range.

Apex-i Delta fin cores are supposed to be good for front mount and have a better core for cooling. The internal fins are supposed to be better as well.

Spearco is a very simple yet effective bar/plate design. Spearco is probally one of the more known intercooler makers in the USA.

When asking which core is better. I'd say the apex-i core is better.

Thanks Danny

They are both the same design. So, If the core on each is just as good, then it's $400 more for polished pipes.

Although there is a size difference. The Fashion is taller but the TSF is a 1/2" thicker. Since the stock bumper mouth isn't that large, I would think the thicker core has the advantage.

I thought this was a good thread, but I guess no one has any experiance with the Spearco intercoolers.

If anyone is looking for a dual pressure gauge to test with (Jr.), I have a GReddy dual pressure gauge for sale. I've attached a pic. Jr., maybe we could do a swap for the interior trim pieces plus a bit of cash?
