Flywheel nut, how hard is it to get off?

I have the rotation locked, and that's working fine, but it seems to be an enormous amount of torque to get it off. I was using about a 2 foot arm, but had no luck budgin it. Any tips?

A good impact wrench will take it right off. The fun part is pulling the flywheel off the eshaft.

Bruce Turrentine busts it right off with an 18" breaker, and taps out the flywheel with a mallet and pry bar(? - don't recall exactly but they were hand tools)

Anyway, what's the difference?

Yeah, I know. Torque = force * moment arm.

What I'm saying is Turrentine pops a flywheel nut with a breaker bar, and everyone else uses huge breakers or impact guns - how does he do it, or what is the difference? Does having the engine out and being able to stand on it make that much difference?

i guess it would be easy with an 8' arm.

the 2.5' bar (like the one racing beat makes) is a whole different story. i had to get help from some1 else in order to get enough ft/lbs on the bar, to get my flywheel nut off.

I used a 4ft cheater pipe (slipped over a breaker bar). I put a little force on the end, and it popped right off. 8ft would obviously make it easier, but I think that's way overkill. My 4ft pipe made life plenty easy (for both the flywheel nut and the 19mm front crank nut).

Its torqued on with about 290 ft/pounds or a little more depending if its been taken off before..you need a nice long bar, 8ft is plenty big. Good times tho!
