fluctuating oil pressure

i know the sending unit sucks, but would it cause the oil pressure reading to go from 60 to 10 for no apparent reason? i'm cruising at 80mph and it was reading around 60, then i had to slow down for some traffic it dropped to like 10 and never went back up. earlier in the day when it was hotter it just read 30-40 all the time. when you guys say the sending unit sucks is this want you're talking about? i thought it just meant it wasnt accurate, not that it fluctuates so much. thanks.

I think that's pretty normal. The pressure tends to fluctuate with speed, if you are going at the same speed and you hit a hill or downshift, the pressure goes up as well. 60 at 80 mph is a little high, 45 is more like it.

i know it varies with temp and speed, it just seems weird that it never went back up when i go back to my normal cruising speed. and during city driving it's so low i'm so scared the engine is getting no oil but the temp reading seem ok.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just make sure you check the oil level.
