flowing exhaust question...

right now i have downpipe, gutted cat, and stock exhaust after that.

lots of people say losing all cats is really high flow, and i dont have ecu so it worries me. i was wondering if it would be better to put back on a stock cat and then go with a catback exhaust. i want a catback anyways, im just wondering if this would be safer.

thanks

Safer then running a MP? Id say so. Even with a MP as long as you limit your boost to 10 psi you should be good on the stock computer. I'd say go with the catback, and leave the stock cat in there until you are ready for a ecu upgrade. The reason is with either mod you are getting rid of a bottleneck in your exhaust and putting one right back in. What are your other mods? Are you going to get a HF cat or a stock one?

well, i want to be safe. all i have performance wise is fluidyne, hks downpipe, and a gutted main cat. i would like to put on a high flow, to keep the heat down under the engine, but if its unsafe to have downpipe/highflow/catback.....then i'd rather just put on a stock cat, untill i get a new ECU.

also...i just notice at the rx7store....there is a 300hp kit. it has the ecu i want, plus catback and an intake. this sounds like a heck of a lot better deal than buying it all seperate...anyone know anything about the power kits? sounds like the route for me...

One bit of advice for you. If you are wanting to go for high rwhp numbers sometime in the future then don't waste your time with anything other than the stand alone EMS units like the Apex'i PFC or the Haltech E6K. Most of the other reprogrammed ECU chips have a set boost level and you really can't adjust anything with them like you could with a stand alone. Just my .02 Laterz

i agree. If you have the cash i would go for it.

That being said, you can run a DP-HFC-CATBACK as long as you keep your boost to 10 psi. That is critical. The stock computer is rich enough to support these three mods as long as you keep your boost down. You could use Homedepot Racing needle valve, electronic boost controller blah blah blah

bottom line is with these three mods and boost at 10psi you should be alright. I ran Intake, SMIC, DP, and CB on the stock computer for a while until my PowerFc came, and i was alight.

later

thats what i like about the kit...it comes with exhaust of choice, downpipe, apex PFC, and intake of choice. seems like a pretty good deal for ~$2000

that aint too bad. You could find all the parts for less and save a few bucks buying them used, but that is up to you.

I used to run with a down pipe, mid pipe, and a catback on a stock ecu before i went single turbo. At first do to the increased exhaust flow my boost would spike to 15psi, I removed the pills in the wastegate lines and the boost would go to about 13psi and I didnt have any problems. Unless u think shooting flames out of your exhaust or back firing alot is a problem. But I agree with the others get an ECU, Apex power FC is a nice comp, then you wont have to worry about anything.

yea, i cant decide between the apexi N1 and apexi GT......the GT is 3.74, how big is the N1? it says the GT is louder, which if i am going to pay for a full exhaust.....might as well get the loudest is the flow on those gonna affect the low end much on stock twins? the N1 says its really good midrange

the n1 is the same size it just has a different muffler. i like the single tip so i would go with the n1, and also the dual tip for the gt looks weird.

if you are running a downpipe/ high-flow cat/ cat back is there a chance of boost spike?? (on the stock computer) and can the stock computer handle that??

IMHO the Racing Beat dual tip CB is one of the best sounding/performing exhausts for the money anywhere out there. Now if you wanted a REALLY loud and free flowing exhaust get the one from Buddy Club. That is pretty much a straight pipe. But it does have nice numbers. Just my .02 Laterz.
