flames and melting bumpers?

I have a question for all of you with melting or flame stained bumpers. Is the damage that is caused to the bumper a result of the heat or the actual flamage? I am considering getting a mp and am worried about damage to my rear bumper. I was wondering if I just kept the flaming to a minimum, would I be able to avoid damage to my bumper? or would the heat melt the bumper anyway? oh yeah, I have a 3 in dp and a RB single catback. TIA.

The stock cat will keep the heat in therefore when you replace it with a midpipe all the heat can exit. You know how hot a rotary runs so it's not just the flames but the actual exhaust too.

ive seen plates on the bumper right above the exhaust on some cars but I personally thinks it looks cheesy .. i would guess that exhausts that has the additional piping that encloses the actual pipe ends like the RB dualtips would provide additional protection from heat...that is of course if flames werent the culprit....

i believe the plastic trim piece under the bumper right above the exhaust may warp.

I've heard that you can modify yout exhaust to face out at an angle which would help distribute the heat off to the side and away from the bumper. Anyone have any experience with this solution?

5! sorry, had to go to a bar with some friends.

He probably had a little piece added in the cb to make it longer, you can also extend the tip too.

RB catbacks are supposedly quite which means more restrictive so the canister can catch some of that heat. Don't worry about anything, you'll love it! Keep the bumper waxed though. Also, don't pay attention to that thread about my eyes burning.

i get pretty big flames with my car, but i have not noticed any damage, however i get tons of oxidation/cabon build up right above the tips. its really no bigge...wax takes it right off.

i think just as long as your tips dont point up, your bumper is pretty safe. its not the flames that melt the bumper, its the heat from your exhaust. the flames dont last long enough to actually do damage. i guess its kinda like running a lighter across your hand.

I've always thought that the big black mark up above my exhaust gave my FD Character...

...but mainly because I'm too lazy to wax that particular part off of the car.

I only have a CB and DP...and the black plastic trim around the muffler tip is melted.

I can't even imagine how fast you guys running a mid pipe would melt stuff...

If there is any way to stop the damage...let me know. At this point the black trim piece is ruined on my car. I was thinking about putting a spacer block under the hanger mount to try to drop the exhaust down a bit.

I have the HKS turbo cab back...it has a pretty big tip...4" ( I think) and it is pretty close to the trim piece.

Later,
Patrick

My bumper hasn't started to melt or get soot on it yet...but the little black trim piece that goes underneth the bumper has started to melt. but it's only a half an inch away from top of the muffler tip.

no problem

ive got some nice flames, the only bad thing is the smoke/tarnish on the paint above the exaust, but that comes right off! i just spray it with the engine/tire cleaner at the car wash. man i used to sit there scrubbing the **** out of it! then i realized it come right off with no effort and 75 cents at the car wash!

Like ***! I posted a short video of the way it sounds at low rpms, just search for it. Yes, it is very loud, you will see bids dropping from the sky at WOT.

The black trim piece will melt if the tip is to close to it, even if you don't have dp & mp. Mine hasn't even started to melt or anything and the tip is only like an inch away from it.
