Fixing my shifter

I am trying to fix my shifter and get all the proper parts to get it back in working order. In the following picture can you tell me what #1 is and can it be replaced? I did not see a way for the bushing that the 3 screws go through to come off. I looked through the FSM and on J-61 they show a picture just not how to replace it. In #2 there is this lump of metal in the cut out but I don't know what it is and if it is replaceable. The last part is #3 is that the collar that comes with the new shift boot that I got? Any help would be great as I want to put it together properly.

Thanks,
-Bill

#1 can't be replaced. Its part of the shifter as far as I know. On the link below on mazdatrix's website it has a video on the proper installation of shortshifters. It is essentially identical for the stock shifter IIRC.
http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/ssinstal.htm
**this is a link to the step by step. If you go back up one level on their webpage you can see the link for the video.

#2 I'm not sure about the lump of metal but there is a plastic bushing that goes there. It's called the "groove bushing" on mazdatrix's website part number 17-5150-M501

#3 I'm not sure what you are asking. Can you take a picture of the parts that you have.

So if #1 cannot be replaced what do you do when the rubber that is attached to it breaks off? as you can see a little to the left of #1 there is rubber that is broken up.

Thanks,
-Bill

I will take pics tomorrow of what I have but what I got from Ray was the rubber shift boot which comes apart in 2 pieces and contains a plastic collar which looks like it replaces #3.

your not making sense to me in what you are asking. Check out the links I posted and see if that fits for the install and parts.

Look at the first link I gave you and watch the video.

I checked it out and it looks like I need:

Groove Bushing
Inner Boot
Wave washer (the part inside the transmission under the key that guides the groove bushing on)

Thanks a lot for your help 7racer I am new to dealing with the transmission but I am learning fast

I have M on the mazdatrix page which is the 3 piece outer boot though it does contain a 4th part which is a collar to keep the upper part of the outer boot attached to the shifter.

I have one similar to this one I bought a couple years ago. Mine is silver! You are better off upgrading. These short shifters work fine. Also get the aluminum shifter bushing from Mazdatrix. That's my combination and it's working perfect.

They can all be replaced. #1 comes with the rubber boot. It slips over the shifter. Its a bit difficult to get on though, use some lube. There is also a metal upgade for the bottom most bushing. Don't forget there is another piece just like #3 that the shifter sits on as well as another marcel spring. Call Ray at Malloy Mazda he will tell you what you need.
