fitting my long self into an FD
hello guys
currently I drive a 1991 JDM Toyota MR2 turbo.
However this summer I plan on selling it and next spring, importing an FD3S. One that is already done up and has a rebuilt engine already. (ya, expensive )
anywho, being 6 foot 4, and ridiculously long legs, I do not fit in an FD. I have searched around here, and general logic says I'm screwed. However, I have one plan that might work, and I need your guys' opinions on it.
small after market steering wheel, and a racing seat bolted to the floor, as far back as it can go (bye bye sitting in the back seat). And if this fails, would there be any chance I could fabricate a wheel spacer? In hopes that I could then have the steering wheel closer to me, and not hitting my knees, if that happens to be the case.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Racing seats, Smaller wheel and cut the steering rack and drop the wheel back (towards cluster) and inch or more if needed. If it's really that bad sand down the gauge cluster to fit the wheel even deeper. Just my 2 cents, once your focused on an FD your hell bent on it

there is a thread floating around the forum somewhere related to this topic. its called "seats for the large and in charge, fatass/wideass". it mostly refers to the same issue.
you should look into it, i think the guy who started it is the same height. btw, a good friends of mine who is 6'4 drove my fd and didnt have any problems. but he is a skinny ****

quick release hubs and aftermarket steering wheels will get you the room you need to fit your knees. The hub acts as a spacer giving you more leg room and bringing the wheel closer to your chest. The quick release feature is good for getting in and out of the car without having to contort yourself around the wheel.

I'm 6', maybe 6'1" on a good day , and I fit length wise no problems with the seat scooted forward. The only real fitment issues I have are with my legs and the steering wheel, other than that it's a very comfortable fit.

take into consideration that there is less leg room in a jdm fd then a U.S. or Canadian model. Of course this will not make any difference if u are going with a custom seat set up.

I'm 6'1" and I do have seating problems. Mostly arms/legs balance. When I get into comfortable position sitting and when my legs where they supposed to be - steering wheel too far.
When I get comfortable with arms and steering wheel - my legs bent. This is how I drive now.
I think if I figure how to move wheel 1-2" out - it will be just right.

speaking as 6'4" 240lb person at the time i owned an FD i was really uncomfortable. i had the racing seats as far back as they could go and i had a removeable steering wheel to help me get in and out. but i was cramped and no matter how much i scrunched down my head kept hitting the roof of the car. thats one reason i had to sell it.

it comes from the personal experience of sitting in a jdm and owning a cdn model. the jdms (92 models) come with rear seats allowing less room up front. there has also been some jdm owners commenting on this in the cdn forum.

I've been wanting to point out that very thing. I'm 6'2" (well, I used to be. I've shrunk a bit over the years) and my son is about an inch taller than I am. He fits just fine in the FD but I hit my head on the headliner (touring with sunroof). He has unusually long legs and short waist. I'm more normally proportioned. Neither of us can heal-toe however. Not enough room under the stock wheel.

i have a 36 pant length, and thats only front hips down, not even waist
