First time on the track

This passed weekend I finally got my FD on the track at Michigan's Waterford Hills raceway. This was the first time for the car and me. It was a open track day not real racing but a hole lot of fun. There was five groups based on experience and I was start in the lowest group. It was a big mix of cars, from daily drivers to all out race cars, super high end to beaters, but all running really hard.

The point of this thread is "I LOVE MY FD" . In the beginning of the day not to many people where paying any attention to my car but by the end of my second session many driver made their way over to check out the car. The track organizers bumped me up two groups on my third session because I was two laps ahead of some of the car in my group. In group three I was a bit more challenged and my inexperience was showing. the gap between me and third pass was large, but the gap between me and fifth was larger. It was one of the greats things I've ever did.

Now before ever one jump on and start giving me hard time about their is more to racing than on open track days, I know. I give 95% credit to my FD and 5% to me. I spent a lot of time and money to get my FD to where it is now and the pay off is GREAT. To spend the day beating to s**t out of a car, doing thing I never thought I could do and still drive home with the A/C on. I can only say "I LOVE MY CAR" If you ever get a chance to run on a track, GO!

I would also like to thank Chris form Banzai Racing for all the help, engine and tuning. I almost forgot "Gwans is a pimp!"

Joe

it is always great to see an FD being used for what it was designed

warning to Joe:
road racing is highly addictive and a very slippery slope.

way to go Joe and Banzai

And as already stated it is nice to hear that you had no problems with the car.

^ Yea Rich That would be cool. I am slowly seting up my car to be reliable on the track. Dual oilcoolers, PFC, Coilovers (zeal), I have a racing seat to install (recaro). And I have been thinking about a BBK. Fluiddyne Rad. Upgraded SMIC (RE-A). and some other stuff.

To the OP what mods have you done to your car?

Never heard of it, and I grew up north of Pontiac and lived in Waterford for several years, I assume it's a small, tight course? You should check out Grattan or Mid-Ohio. Car looks nice and as Howard said, racing gets addictive and can drain your bank account quick, even with two fewer tires (I generally prefer bikes)

I knew I had to get my car on the track ever sense I visited Road America for your Rotary meet years ago.
I'm gutting a TII right now for a vert swap. We where going to sell off the TII body and the vert motor, but now I think we may have to make a track car out of it.

It's part of the Oakland county sportsman club, off I-75 and sashaba rd. It is small, but from what my friends and some of the drivers at the track were telling me, it very technical and not very wide. If you don't fit the right line you will not go very fast but when you do it great. It will keep you on you toes. http://www.waterfordhills.com/cms/news.php

Waterford has been around since the 70s. at one time it was an SCCA track. while it has it's share of oddities, all tracks are great except for Nelson Ledges

and Texas World....what a shithole

the problem with Michigan is freeze-thaw wreaks havoc on the track surface, Mid Ohio is a patchwork and Grattan is just ok; the U.S. is so far behind Europe in quality roadracing venues

Welcome to the addiction man! It will be a truly life changing obsession now. As you've already noticed, the car was built for one purpose, to track. You'll become an even bigger rx7 fanatic now that you've seen what it's capable of.
