finished rebuild, no idle

Finally got the engine back in my car, mild street port, removed all the emissions except the idle speed control. It was too late by the time I finally got it started to do any trouble shooting. Initial start up was 2 or the turn then it fired a little, so I stopped reset the ignition and tried again, same thing. Next time I used a little bit of throttle and she fired right up. Very rough but it smoothed out as all the petroluim jelly burned away....buuuutttt, as soon as I lift my film completely off the throttle it instantly dies...no hesitation no nothing, just shuts off. Tried stock ecu and pfc both do the same.

Stock ecu doesn't throw the CEL when it is running which I thought was strange because everything I heard says no emissions equal check engine light. Going to recheck all vacuum lines, change the plugs, maybe check compression tomorrow to see if I can find anything out but maybe someone has an idea.

Its really weird though, responds to throttle inputs, but as soon as I leave my foot all the way off she just dies. With my foot on the throttle I can keep it idling at 850....until I let go then dead :-(

Ran it for quite a while with my foot on the gas, got it up to the normal range and the vasoline smoke cleared up but as soon as I lift off its like no air is going in at all and she dies......timing.......no distributor or id totally play with that lol

Looks like the IAC is hooked up ... per the OP. Maybe back out the idle bleed screw a couple of turns and try again?

IAC is hooked up, unplugged it, no difference, was hoping the pfc would show voltages in it but I couldn't find a selection for that. Backed the bleed screw out until I could see all the way through, it was whistling from the air it was pulling in but as soon as I closed the throttle it died(was on just throttle body at this point) once I get off work I'll replace the spark plugs and check compression while I'm in there, if I rev it to say 2k rpm and let go boost gauge reports ~20 in vacuum, where I hold the throttle to keep it running its at ~15.

When feeling around in there I can feel the idle bleed score sucking in air but I don't feel anything in the port that goes to the IAC...leading me to believe that's the deal

The only ECU reference you gave was stock.
If that is true, that is your problem: no air pump causes the O2 sensor to read too rich at idle and it pulls fuel.

Tried both stock ecu and the apexi power cc...commonly referred to as pfc mentioned in earlier posts :P jk, but yeah, tyres both computers and its pretty much the exact same except the pfc has a cool handheld thing lol. I really think I should feel some kind of vacuum from the port that leads to the IAC or ISC....the idle control thing

Checked voltage at the IAC plug with key on car not running and it was zero....well millivolts...so zero lol. Pulled it off and it moves with 12 volts.....so now I need to find out why I'm not getting electricity to it.....

Well, sorry for the Tripple post but I found the answer with a spare harness....the IAC ground goes to the gray solenoid plug which I cut out....therefore no ground for my IAC...
