Finished Hose Job - HELP

Need some help guys......

I completed the hose job and the boost isnt right. From 2K to 4K doesnt seem like there is any boost. Its like the Primary is not working. At 4k the Secondary seems to add decent boost. ( dont have a boost gauge installed yet )

Before I tear it back apart can you guys point me in the right direction. I'm not positive if I replaced the hoses that have the pills. If I did replace them and didn't put the pills back in, would that cause this problem?

I may have gotten the electrical connectors for the selinoids labeled J and I on the hose diagram. I reversed them and drove the car again, no obvious change. The wire colors are the same for both connectors, are these interchangeable? Seems strange that they would be.

Any help would be apreciated

Check your CCV. The hose might be pinched, causing it not to fully close causing the Primary boost to escape into the secondary turbo.??

If you replaced those hoses and did not put the pills back in, it's no wonder you have no boost but those hoses are pretty visable & the pills are pretty obvious too. Did you do all your hoses? The pills (carburator jets) are in the fatter 6MM hoses & most folks leave them alone.

I think the two solenoids you are talking about have green connectors? Look for a white paint mark. The one on the right has a paint mark below where the connector plugs in and the connector as a paint mark too.

I checked the hoses with the pills.......I didnt replace those. After seeing them again I recall they were in pretty good shape.

Is there any difference between the green and brown check valves? I had to replace a green one and a brown one but ended up getting two green ones.

I would think a check valve is a check valve. I got four new ones from Mazda and they are all green topped now. It's purpose is to allow a one way flow. On the other hand, they are different sizes. I really don't know but I don't think that is problem.

But make sure the arrows face towards the upper intake manifold. And make sure the one on the pressure chamber is right, with the arrow pointing towards the pressure chamber.

Get a boost gauge! How are you diagnosing a boost problem with no boost gauge? Come on man! Check your IC clamps and the 4 vacuum hose behind the UIM. Make sure they're not pinched.

I did a vacuum job recently which ones have the pills, is a 6mm hose the only way you can tell, if it has a pill in there.

I think we should develop some of those check valves, mazda's getting rich at 50$ for 2.

The brown check valve is the green check valve, probably soaked in oil. They have oil/fuel filter elements in them. I wondered the same thing for a bit myself.

The solenoids you mentioned - one should have a white dot painted on it (the one on the driver's side, I THINK). The connector for that should also have a dot. I took a lot of pictures during disassembly and that helped a lot.

I also recommend looking very hard for pinched hoses.

The two fat ones that enter the front of the actuators below / in front of the turbos. If you squeeze the hoses you should feel them in there - they are brass and about the size of a pencil eraser. Don't get them switched and make sure you reinsert them with the hole facing in the flow path. I used something long and pointed to slide it in the new hose.

It was on the vacuum hose diagram - if you did a hose job without it then shame on you.

Found the problem.....

At the risk of proving myself an idiot, here goes. The reason I had NO boost at lower RPM and SOME boost at high RPMs is.......I left the 1" hose on the side of the Y-pipe unattached.

Its running great now......

Now that is a simple solution. Beats looking at a bunch of hoses looking for pinched ones...

LOL, your right it would be shameful, I should have rephrased my statement to, I did a partial hose job, but just a few that were under the im, and the solenoids (j, and I) in the diagram. And looking over to see what hoses where too hard, and replaced those. Thanks for taking the time to explain where they were at though good thing I didn't get near the turbo lines, so I feel safe now...
