Finally ran 12s, vid and slip

12.88 @ 110.7mph

It was cool out but car had heatsoaked in line and air temps were 60C by pfc. Tires were S-03s, regular pres - 32psi.

Oh yeah:

KDR Street Ported Engine
Power fc tuned by Steve Kan, 1 bar boost
Pettit Intake
Pettit CC2 Intercooler
Downpipe, hiflo cat, RB exhaust
ACT clutch, lite flywheel
1200CC secondaries, supra fuel pump

Turned 299rwhp with some nasty fouled plugs, main problem is boost drops off after transition, hits 15psi then drops to 11 or so by redline. Should be in the 320+ with proper boost.

You'll hit very low 12's, maybe high 11's, when you get the boost issue fixed. Keep us posted. Thanks.

Also i'm getting horrible wheel hop off the line. its painful to hear and feel. working on zerobanger's home made water injection to get the intake temps down, see if that helps...

steve suggested it might be the pfc, he doesn't have much faith in its boost controlling abilities. i may back it up with a profec b. if thats not it, either turbos getting tired or a leak...usual rx7 stuff

Doesn't look like your turbos are leaking cause theres no indication of smoke coming out the RB. Just work on getting the boost level up to par and take it from there.

wow..that seems like a low trap for your mods...especially since your 60' is so nice.

Iam confused...have you replaced your plugs since your dyno?

yep, replaced plugs, runnin all 9s. i know at least one guy with a near identical setup who trapped 112. the boost thing and the 60C/160F air temps didn't help.

They play Knightrider re-runs at the track. Sweet. Great run with those mods and 60 degree intakes. I have about the same mods.

Don't know about you but that 10 degree difference from 60 to 50 degrees makes a big differnce in how my car feels to me.

hey dan! sorry dude, i'll try to remember next time.

on the way home air temps got down in the 30C range (it was maybe 65F out) and the car felt noticably stronger. i'm tryin to get this water injection stuff together but everytime i order a pump it gets busted in shipping!

oh, the guy recording forgot to turn on the mic so my buddy stuck in the tune. good stuff.

With those mods and such high boost with 2.0 60 time you should definetaly be in the 11s!! Even though it went down to 11psi by redline you still had a lot of boost for a good amount of rpms. Your trap is VERY LOW.

12.8 is fast as hell but I think the best feeling is to know your car is going as fast as it is capable. Get that problem fixed and go back again maybe drop the tire pressure to ~27ish and you'll be seeing 11s @ 115+

Why not try a manual ball and spring valve to control boost it works amazing.

nice vid
oh and i'd like to add GET A MIDPIPE (if it's allowed)

honestly i'm surprised to hear people say that the trap is low. tops with these mods is like 330rwhp or so, best dyno with stock turbos i've seen is 370s. i didn't think low 300s was enough for that kind of speed. i posted up in the NE section to see if anyone can lend me a profec b to see if that works.

i'll be back on a colder nite with a good bag of ice to see if lower temps help any. and maybe search around for boost leaks...

It sounds like you have a coupler leaking. I'd pull them all off the car and inspect them real good. Most of the time you cant tell if one has a small tear in it untill you remove it. I SERIOUSLY doubt its the PFC unless you have your settings wrong. I used to hold 14psi strong all the way to redline with the PFC.

Also, your trap and ET both look good, get that boost leak fixed and your REALLY going to be happy.

I think his trap sounds about right, after reading his mods and the description of the boost tail-off from the transition. Get everything sorted, and yeah, you should be in the 115-117 mph range.

Didn't look like a whole lotta wheel hop on your 12.88 run....very good 60 ft. considering...all in all, great job!

i think its low....110mph is 300rwhp in and fd.

114-118 is the range you should be in.

I dont know about easy 11s though...well unless you get slicks.

Weather does play an important factor but i have the same mods as you minus the streetport and i was trapping 114.5mph with a much worse 60' time in dead summer heat at etown.

i think i'll start pulling things out today and try to find any leaks. on the dyno you could see it held at that 300 mark to about 8k. which is nice but its supposed to keep going up so thats the effect of the boost drop off.

you'll have to trust me on the wheel hop....i've never launched well without it. maybe i'll be investing in some m2 trailing arms.

btw, you other guys who drag: when you go to the strip are there ever any other FDs there? i've never seen one at this strip in maryland and its like i'm a celebrity with this thing.

Hmm this thread was interesting, i was at the track today and did get a 60 feet time of 1.904 at my best, but still i can't get past 13.1. Im loosing alot of boost. Like dropping 0.3 bars.

After reading this, i think i should redo al mu couplings between each IC pipes. I might have a boost leak somwhere.

I was also running Bridgestone S-03 with only 20 psi of presure.

welll on my old setup, i had stock engine with dp, mp, catback, 1200 cc secondaries, highflow fuel pump, blitz smic, act clutch , rx7fashion cold air box and a few other small things...I ran 13.2 @ 110 with a 2.4 60'.

Of course my 60 foot sucked, but I only ran 12 lbs of boost and trapped what you did when you used 14 lbs and a kdr street port.

what kind of intake do you have? YOu know I was trapping at 105-106 until I designed my ram air.

Now with WI and a streetport and soon the "device" I expect a better trap.

Nice times!!

Nice times. Wish that we could've heard your car. At least next time you know to turn on the mic for your buddy. But once again, nice times and congrats!

Lower tire pressure should help that I think. But nice times. I'm being tuned by Steve on Oct 3rd, hitting a track sometime after that and hoping to hit 12.9, nice times for you though!
