finally pulled the turbos out
Well i finally got a chance to pull the turbos out to get a stud i broke off fixed. When i bought the car it was leaking oil from the oil return line in the back from what i could tell since then i broke the stud. I was also having boosting issues where i never went above 4 or 5. Taking those out was a bitch! But i finally removed it from the top of the car. How did others get theirs out, im curious.
With all those problems that i have had with the turbos so far i was seriously considering a single turbo conversion...since everything is out already. My question is my car is bone stock. Would doind a single turbo conversion work on stock car or would i have to purchase other mods to get it to work right.
For right now i wouldnt mind doing stock boost on a single turbo. So im just wondering about getting the car back up to running not exactly increasing the horsepower yet.

You need to purchase other things for the swap. 10 PSI on a single turbo is not necessarily 10 PSI on the stock twins. If you can find a single turbo that has the same flow as the stock twins, then that would work. However, good luck on that.
If you can't afford to do everything you need for a single turbo swap, you need to wait until you can before doing anything. Just my 2 cents.

Stock turbos, on a stock set up is a HUGE pain in the *** to work with. If you knew how to go non sequential, that would make it easier for you. Still a pain though. Going single seems to be the make sense move. I'm frustrated with my twins project, and I've had them off 15 times in 12 months, just trying different things and fixing things. They are a pain. Plain and simple. Good luck.

just took mine off 4 the first time ...kind of a pain ...now that i did it once ...it shouldn't be to hard another time...
i keep mine sequential...(for now)...
sounds like you need to convert to non-sequential...before going single...
i've been reading up on single turbos..theres alot of info out there...and theres alot more to it then just slapping on a turbo...
good luck

The main thing you need is a stand-alone ECU and proper tuning. An upgraded fuel system is debatable depending on the turbo you select. I have heard of people running some smaller singles on the stock fuel system. All of that would need to be verified with a wideband O2 to make sure your A/F ratio is ok.
However if you are going to get a single which has the same power as the stock twins, why bother.

hmm let's see...
$2-3k for single turbo kit
800-ish for ECU
=
More than i want to spend on this car now...Looks like ill just try and fix the stock turbos.
Now that i have them out of the car is there anything i should do to them?

Just make sure they are clean and replace any hose that is original or questionable. When you are putting them back in, I find it easier to do from under the car. I lay them in from the top, and then go under to line things up. If you have a couple bolt from the manifold that are in place, it makes it very easy. From there, just line up your oil returns (the one near the tranny can be a pain some times). Once all that is in place, go back up top and connect your hose's and oil to the turbos. This will make it much easier than trying to do it after you have tightened down the turbos to the manifold. Good luck.
