LOL 99 spec lips are awesome. They make the front of the car look totally different IMO. But i guess if you have a 99 spec lip you are a ricer as FD from R1 has said. I love my 99 front lip

jayk 11-02-04 06:34 PM

I think Jimlab posted actual windtunnel stats on the base/touring lip, r1 lip, and 99 lip somewhere on this board which showed that there is an actual difference between the 3 in downforce and drag.

I never understood modifications that do not improve performance....it's why I always shake my head at ricers

I love how unstable this forum is. One person (this shithead) has a comment and everyone climbs in the ring to take pop-shots. It's great.:D Now its my turn...

Obviously, you dont know anything about light-weight aerodynamic cars. Motor-city-boy thinks it a shame Magnaflow doesn't make an OEM replacement for the FD. Oh yeah, my traction bars (just installed them...on my front lawn) are going to boost my gas mileage. BITCHIN!

jimlab 11-02-04 08:56 PM

Mark's (YZF-R1, FD from R1, the ancient words) posts tends to have that effect on people. :p:

That said, I think putting a '99 front spoiler on a '93-'95 bumper A) looks like shit, B) looks like shit, C) looks like a cheap "me too" wanna-be attempt at updating the look of the car, and D) looks like shit. The styling does not fit the '93-'95 bumper AT ALL.

If you want the '99 spec spoiler, buy the '99 spec bumper that goes with it. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it. :)

What if you think the '99 bumper and lights suck, but you like the functionality of the '99 spec lip? ;)

What does the '99 spoiler do that the '93-'95 R1 front spoiler doesn't? Provide a hair more downforce? Nothing you'd be able to notice or measure, especially at any sane speed. Mark did have a valid point this time.

TwinTriangles 11-02-04 09:06 PM

I like the R1 lip better over the 99spec too...
I think the 99spec looks kinda flimsey but I do agree it looks good with the 99spec bumper.
Speaking of anyone have an R1 lip for sale ?

As far as performance, yep, some more downforce. Every positive enhancement is a good one, especially for those of us who track our cars. I'm sure there are many areas you could compromise on your V8 for something a little "less", but you didn't because you didn't want to. ;) Besides, getting a '99 Spec unused was much cheaper and easier than the stock lip the last time I priced them out (in case people are counting pennies).

Taste is different to everyone. What one person likes, someone else might not. I like the look of a properly attached '99 Spec lip to a '93-95 bumper. I still have yet to find a bumper I like myself over the stock '93-95 but that's another conversation. Some people don't like it, oh well. They just don't need to do it to their cars. ;)

Well, there's one justification. :)

I think the Border Type II is my favorite.

I wonder what that would look like with the newer style lights?

I'm not really a fan of fiberglass, but that has always been the only aftermarket front I would even consider..

I do like the Border Type II over any other aftermarket bumper. But I still like stock better. ;)

They do have that exact same bumper for the '99 (yuck) Spec lights. :)

They have a version with the new marker lights, but I can't find a picture anywhere.

I think we both know that the point I was trying to make was that atomic "events" are predictable and very well understood.

Of course, this is coming from a guy who thinks Noah packed up two of every animal to ride out the global flood while all the fish stayed in the sea (which miraculously maintained fresh, brackish, and salt zones for the comfort of the various species), and all the plants were somehow saved by hitching rides on floating bog-rafts... :rlaugh:

what an asshole

excuse me dickhead....my point was unless you are driving something like this http://www.koenigsegg.se/ or this http://www.noblecars.com/new-noble-site/index.html at 120+, a piece of plastic hanging off the front bumper is a complete waste of time

little Mazda wanna-bes on this forum amaze me....if you are tracking your car, have at it

but radiosotope decay is not well understood and subject to a host of assumptions....that was the point....you were way outside your limited knowledge base and still are

stick to V-8s Jim

I don't know who provides your data....Discovery Channel?

whoever it is....they're worthless :D

Quickfini 11-02-04 11:37 PM

I have a 99 lip on 93-95 bumper. The only thing I don't like about it, is that it doesn't fit properly. It looks like a cheap lip with bad fitment problems. It pissed me off so much, I just ended up buying the 99 bumper haha.

Fred Sickert 11-03-04 12:28 AM

I think the best look was that guy that modified the 93 nose so the radiator opening/ducts were larger. BTW anybody know where that picture is ?

If your looking at those cars, your are on the wrong forum. Let me kelp you out. www.kitcar.ca/yabbse/ You're welcome.:D

Most people buy the 99 spec parts because they like how they look. That is usually what most car owners buy any exterior "enhancing" product. Mazda wanna-be or not, you're the brainiac who declared what a waste this "piece of plastic hanging off the front bumper" is...especially on this forum.
