Nice car... looks like a good find. However, 1st things 1st as you said, you need to focus on maintenance then reliability mods. Do the power and cosmetic mods last. Be sure to read the faq's atop this page, and learn to use the search function. What mods are currently on the car? You'll need to do the regular maintenance items first: oil, brakes, coolant, etc etc... then the reliability: downpipe, aluminum ast, radiator, then you can worry about the cosmetic/power mods. After all, what good is a great looking car if it doesn't run???

congrats again and best of luck and welcome to addiction.

It was listed on 2 websites, I dont think there are any reliability issues. I got her for 21k, that includes a 4 year 48k mile bumper to bumper warranty, that was 3k all by itself.

wow nice car wellcome to the party . You still want to do the reliability stuff, more for piece of mind when your driving down the road. Like a aluminum AST tank.

I understand this post and this is part of the reason i joined this website. I have no idea what needs to be done on a 12+ year old car. Then I ask myslef should I really DO anything with bumper to bumper coverage. After all, i did pay for it.

Looks like it has one of TurboJeff's 51R battery trays - cool!

I'd look into boost and water temp gauges to start with, maybe do the FC thermoswitch.

Congrats on your purchase. The first thing to do, is to learn to drive it. There are so many horror stories about people crashing their FD's within a very short time. This is mostly due to inexperienced drivers getting behind the wheel of a car that performs well beyond the capabilities of the driver. Don't become a statistic. Respect the car, and don't try to push it ..... it will push back!!

Sign up for a driving school, and do some autocrossing. Don't crash it!!!!!

Awsome buy, definantly do the reliability mods, and if your lucky you will have a rotary sepecialty shop in your area to help you out. Just wait til you take that thing to a general mechanic, because its not a convential piston combustion engine allota mechanics are afraid to even change a damn fuse on these cars.

Luckily there is a huge Mazda RX7 shop right down the street from me. Its on Route 46 in New Jersey, They only deal with RX7's, thats it! They do restorations, everything. I think Im pretty lucky for that. Is there a standard for reliabilty mods? I have seen this a bunch, Was there some reliability problems with these cars?

Im kinda surprised no one said anything about that statement. Prevent problems before they start is always a good plan. Im stunned that they sold you a true bumper to bumper 4 year warrenty. If you dont mind, how did that put you out?

I saw your car on Ebay, it looked very good and I hope you get a lot of trouble free enjoyment from the car. Congrats

warranty

The warranty set me back 3k, I think they were able to do this because they do a ton of business with the company that give warranties to exotic cars. Their main sales are ferrari, masarati (sp?) etc..etc..

i didnt know the car was on ebay. funny what you learn after the fact.

beautiful car.

im not sure if it was clear but the reliabilty mods spoken of are the general maintence things that should have been done to the car by the owner to prevent future known problems. things that most dealers don't do. wheels usually come way down the line, for me...3 years after I owned mine but to each his own (I like your rims, which FYI you can prob sell here in the classifieds pretty easily).
There's several things you need to do, my suggestion is take her to one of your local meets. Let the other FD guys oogle over her and let you know what you should do next

as stated before, that three thousand dollar warranty is worth it for simple problems, but if you blow a apex seal, or have some vacum hose problems, the techs will be clueless on what to do with a rotary engine.
