bone stock, 20000 miles on the motor but i know i have to do all the reliability mods when i get it. Just quick question what would be the best mod to do first? down pipe or ast, intercooler, etc....

that would be "best mods" as in many... start with plugs, wires, all fluids including brake, rear diff, clutch, oil, coolant, etc. Have you got a compression test? Coolant pressure test? Any shop can do this. And diagnose and run a boost test to see if you're at the 10-8-10 boost pattern, if not then diagnose it (which can be rather involved depending on the condition of the turbos, smoking, leaking, loosing boost, etc). Replace FIRST, the radiator if thats stock, SECOND the pre-cat to a downpipe. After that, it's more thorough inspections of various systems you should have a shop look at.

Good luck, send us more pics.

If its 20k on the motor, whats on the chassis? That will help us suggest what regular maintenance will be needed in addition to the reliability mods.

IMO, the 1st mod for any used car should be a 60k tune-up.

Congrats! It sure looks clean from the front.

108000 on the body, now I have a question I know I did just get a great performence car but how much are those test going to cost? (compression, coolant) I am going to do all the reliability mods but my question is since I am not going to be able to do all these at once will I still be able to drive it regularly like 3-4 days a week with worrying about it breaking down lol I feel like this car is such a ***** when it comes to staying alive lol

heh, My FD had 140k on the clock when I finally had it rebuilt. Still ran fine, too, it just blew some coolant smoke at start up. It's true RX-7s are fickle, but in my experience, if you treat them right and pay attention, they'll last.

Sorry, I can't tell you how much those tests are gonna cost...Change the oil, and take 'er for a spin.

I would ensure you have no fuel leaks first, good wiring harness, check/replace all fluids. After that step is done then go on to modifying the car. Downpipe and ast elimination or fighters garage aftermarket AST. The radiators on these cars dont explode everyday The car is still safe to drive with the stock radiator but upgrading isnt a horrible idea. Just ensure you dont have any fuel or coolant leaks and keep a fire extinguisher in the car at all times. It amazes me how many fd owners dont spend $25.00 at walmart on a decent fire extinguisher.

I would go with air filter, turbo pipes. the plastic ones just irks me the most. stock intercooler is really small, I'd switch to a larger one. If its too big you might have to get a smaller battery. at 20k the engine prolly don't need alot of maintainence just yet. I highly recommend getting a turbo timer.

Amen to that. When my FPD failed iwas stuck w/ a 20oz bottle of water that luckily took out the flame. Now i have a gallon of water, a whole bottle of coolant, a roadside emergency kit AND and extinguisher in my car haha. One storage bin is completely full it practically won't close. Anyways, you can never be too careful. Sorry for the hijack.

Yes you would need a different bumper. What you can do is remove the orange plastic inside your stock ones and make them clear. I think clear lenses look real nice on a silver car.

dont get a turbo timer....they're worthless on our cars. you're gonna be much better off with your other reliability mods.

instead. just cool the car off while driving before you park it. I.E: a few minutes of just cruising with no happy right foot.
