a few ?'s from a potential owner

I have been reading this site for about 2 weeks now and have the feeling i have acquired probably 1% of the info available here. This site is chock full of info goodness! LOL! now to my ?'s

I am looking at 93 RX7, but the thing is that its green, like forest green. In all the things I have read about the different colors, etc, I have never seen green. Did the 93 come in green or has it been painted?

My planned mods are:
Apexi Intake, Downpipe, Catback, boost gauge, temp gauge.

Anything else recommended?

I have heard different opinions on whether 'fuel management' would be necessary.

I have also heard different opinions on oil as well. Most people recommend Mobil 1 syn. but I remember reading on Mobil 1's site that it isnt recommended for rotary engines. Has something changed? And what about this Mystery Oil that you put in your gas tank?

I know I am still a newbie, but hopefully I will be able to contribute more than simply ask soon. Thanks for having such a great site.

Also looking for a good mechanic in or around the Tulsa, OK area... Anyone know of one?

The color is Montego Blue, but looks green.

Search for realiability mods. I wouldn't suggest full synthetic for a newbie until you learn the advantages and disadvantages of it.

Most people usually go for an all aluminum radiator verses the stock unit (which has plastic parts than can and will crack from heat). Also replacing or elminating the stock plastic AST is another good first thing to do (if it already hasn't been done on the car).

Also, you can do a cheaper modification to the stock air box that will help keep the good parts of a cold air intake as well as open it up a little more. Just search for the forum for "stock air box mod".

Fuel management needs to be address when you start running higher levels of boost. The more boost you are running, the more air is in the system. The stock ECU will not compensate for the additional air (to even out the Air/Fuel ratio) so that's when fuel management needs to be addressed. As long as you stay at the stock boost level, it's not a concern.

As far as oils go, most people run 10w30 or 20w50. Just stay away from 10w40 which has additives that aren't good for the rotary engines.

As far as synthetic, apparently the early synthetic oils were harmful to rotary engines. However, that appears to have changed as technology has gotten better. Many people run synthetic oils in their FD's without any problems. Some more info about oils:

Hey Jarod,
I am also in Tulsa. think I have the only 94 Silver R2 in town...Anyway, your closest mechanic is about 4 hours away and it's called Rotary Performance in Garland, TX. I am headed there in about two weeks to get some work done...I guess one way to know if you need fuel management is to actually add your mods and then have it dynoed with wideband and all...then you can tell if the stock ECU is putting out enough fuel...I am tempted to say that it's best to just get an upgraded ECU to be on the safe side but there are people on this forum that are safely running that setup on their stock ECU...anyways, will be cool to see your car when you get it
