Fender Vents Actually work???

Hey guys~~~ I know the Fender Vents work.... but does anyone have a pic of how the air goes through the ducts out to the vent??? I know there is a pic somewhere in this forum but I searched and searched and I can't find one.... help me out!!~~

In theory yes,they are supposed to work,but in reality i really doubt it.There are some cables that block most of the heated air going to the duct passage.If you want to be sure that the air from the oil coolers escapes,put some grilles behind the plastic fender(thats what i did).

if you every want to see just take your fender liner off and look.

previous owner of my car never put fender liners in when he installed the new bumper (freakin idiot) so I had to order a set, the fender liners have a tube that connects to the vent and goes up around the fender into the engine bay, in reality I dont know if it really works but whatever :P

Cool Fender vents pic...

Get the book "RX-7, Mazda's Legendary Sports Car", by Yamaguchi and Dinkel.
(Likely out of print now)
On page 67 ia a line drawing showing how the oil coolers are vented through the plastic fender well vent duct to the side quarter panel ducts. YES, they are functional.
This book is my #1 coffee table book and is THE difinitive guide to the development of the 3rd generation RX-7. It illustrates the truly advanced engineering of the car in great detail and beautiful color photos.
Perhaps some engineer/fabricator among us could figure out how to use the oil cooler fender vents to help vent the backside of the radiator too - using flexible brake vent hose tubing, etc..
I'll try to go to a friend and scan the pic and put it up in this forum.

A friend of mine has that book, but it's all in Japanese. I wish they had an English translation of it.

Since mazda already has a functional system to pull air through the oil coolers, I would definitly NOT cut the fender liner and put in a vent, even though it probably helps in cooling, pushing air into the wheel wells will very quickly increase lift.

They had a problem that relates to this when designing the C6, they wanted larger brake cooling ducts but pushing more air from the front of the car into the front wheel wells was adding excessive amounts of lift.

Related question:

today when washing the car I popped that black vent cover loose - it looks like there were 3 snap tabs holding it to the body that are now broken. Doh!

Will dropping the wheel well liner give me access? Ideas how to reattach it?

Drifting doesn't typically reach speeds where it would matter.

has anyone put supplemental small hi volume fans in strategic positions to draw out more of the underhood hot air or draw in more cool air.

saw a 3" blower is pegasus racing that could be used to help air flow.
they have different inlet ducts as well.

Ive been thinking of ways to use this type of fan with an inlet duct to funnel air into engine well or the same to draw hot air out using side fender vents.

Thats interesting..But why mazda gave up the "air through fender method",and went with vents holes to the fender liner in the RX8?

The apexi drift car with the ridge kit doesnt have fender liners.
