FDs and EVO 8s......
***This isn't a kill that's why it's here. I think the rules states that it's gotta be a kill in order for it to be in that forum, but if it gets moved then by all means.***
So then my friend just recently got a brand spanking new white EVO 8 (Previous car a 5th gen Prelude) It's all stock for now and of course we're gonna have some fun with his new car and my FD. One of our other friend also has an EVO 8 (Bought it right when it came out) and to me it was pretty impressive. The torque is very nice and pulls pretty hard.
My mods:
CB/DP/Air filter
Boost problem fixed, now pulling nicely at stock levels.
How would the FD go up against his stock EVO 8 on the straights? Top end? (With equal driver's ability)
Has anyone ever raced one yet?
Thanks in advance.

I pulled on an STI with full exhaust intake a boost controller at 16 psi by about a car from a 45mph roll up to 140.
my mods are intake ( with DIY heatshield ) downpipe catback y-pipe 10mm wires, and weight reduction down to about 2700 pounds.
If im not mistaken evos are a bit slower then the STI's, so I Think u should be able to pull on him/her

16psi..... HHmmm, I think the Evo's stock boost level is at 19psi. I dunno they seem to pull pretty hard, even when it was fully loaded with front and rear passengers.

I believe Derek Bell's son drove the Evo to a low 13 at 105 in one of the recent car mags. His numbers were WELL above anything else I've read/seen, but then again he races for a living. So given your mods, if you guys go from a roll it should be a good race.
I've yet to line up with an Evo on the street with real-life elements coming into play but given the Evo's performance and your mods it should be a good close race. Go give it hell, and report back.

Dan,
I know who you are talking about...that's Leif from preludeonline. I still visit that site frequently even though I got rid of my Lude 5 months ago.
Hopefully you'll do well against your friend. I think that he'd be making less power then advertised since he is running it on 91 octane. But I'm not sure how much of an effect crappy gas will have on his car.
Have you gone to the track yet?

I think it is a no-brainer with a FD with full exhaust running 16psi. That should be a high-mid 12 sec car. From a roll the EVO won't have that AWD advantage, FD hands down.
IIRC the EVO is a mid to low 13 sec car that runs 106 ish. The FD will *generally* get a slower launch, but it weighs less than the EVO, with a DP and CB the FD should put out equal power while at the stock boost levels.
A co-worker has an STi, we want to run them but never seem to get the time.

Yeah I keep hearing about AWD losing speed near top end.
This should be an interesting run. We now have 2 FDs and 2 EVO 8s in our group, plus one very modded E36 ///M3 who is thinking of selling it for an EVO 8. Go figure.......

Compared to an STI? no
There are a few things I dont like such as the bumper, but overall I think the car loks ok. Maybe not jaw-dropping gorgeous like an FD, ut it still looks fine.

The Evo8s are pulling mid 13's stock in the 1/4
I would think you could pull a mid 13 with your mods and about 12-13psi.
Those cars can be tricky to get a good launch in. So if he just got it and you launch good. You could win. Otherwise it will be close.

yeah but that mid 13 stock is with an amazing driver. they really need to launch the car to get that. i know people with them that havent pulled anything better then a 14.0. i heard its hard to master the awd launch, because if your not in the right rpm or if you dont slip the clutch alittle the car wont grap and the car bogs.

correct, I was running 10 psi with intake downpipe catback efini y-pipe and boost controller.
This was from a roll too, from a stop I would have lost, even with a perfect launch, although it might not have been by much.

I just raced a Sti from dead stop. I know that he was going to have me off the line but I went for it anyway. I rev to 3grand drop the clutch after the light turned green. My car started to get side ways with tries spinning, I caught second gear with hearing a chirp. The Sti was about 1/2 car length ahead of me and through second he did not gain any ground. we had to shut down hitting thrid because of the light and traffic ahead.
But I just raced I new Sti in my friends mostly stock 3rd-gen with just intake, downpipe and act clutch and flywheel. Now I think I would gain on him if we had a 40mph roll. Now if it was in my car that will be no contest.

A stock STI max boost at stock is 14.5psi... A stock WRX is 13.5psi. I know I sell them... I raced a guy that I sold a silver STI to from a 50mph roll. My mods are air intake, down pipe , full exhaust and a used remapped ecu At 11 psi with a greddy profecb. At the top of 4th gear I was about car and half on him.. Hows that for customer service. Buy a 31,000.00 car and get spanked by the guy who sold it to you..
