Dickey,
Everything that was cool about this thread, well you just killed it
On serious note how could any big block lover not want to put a v8 in this car. Fits perfectly and the car is just chock full of COOLNESS!
BUT did you ever drive one with triangles and sequential twins, that's the kind of crazy bitch I like to hang with. Those BIG loud mouth V8s just don't do a thing for me
Well I guess it's off to the v8 vs rotary races, LETS DO THIS

I have that effect sometimes, hehe.
This FD is not my first RX7 but it is my first one without a rotary engine. The idea of an engine with 3 moving parts is interesting and I've even tried my hand at powering a 12a with hydrogen because its compression characteristics were better suited to the task than a piston engine. In practice the rotary doesn't suit my preferences is all. I still like them but not enough to own any more of them.
in response to the weight comments;
I've got a 30-50lb bias to the rear (fuel dependent) when I'm in the driver's seat of my FD which I understand to be right in line with OEM fair. I weigh 175lbs and my car weighs 2887lbs without me in it. Is a stock twin turbo FD with sunroof, a/c, and power steering significantly off from these values?
Best: Timeless design, unique engine and sound, handling...
Worst: Engine bay has too much room which allows people to do LS and 2JZ conversions and ruin the character and long term prestige/value of the car lol, steering wheel column not adjustable...

I feel the same way. I've got a 100k mile FD which I still think the interior is great. I have taken great care of the interior and it's paid off. I have dyna-matted the doors, floor pan and pretty much the entire interior. always kept it out of the sun and garaged for almost its entire 14 years with me. I added maybe 10 lbs of dynamat (I was stingy with it as I only need a bit to to get the effect. This is not mass loaded vinyl, but it helps). The interior wraps around the driver and still looks great. The HVAC controls look dated now, but everything is placed perfectly for a driver. The door handle is really a nice thing in all Mazdas, especially the passenger side in the FD
I daily drive a 2013 Evo X and that car is noisy and full of rattles compared to my 1994 FD. Not to say the Evo has a bad interior (though I have to hunt down and eliminate all the rattles), but I am trying to communicate the FD's looks and feels great still. If you have a poorly maintained interior that sat in the sun for almost 20 years, yes it is going to be bad.

To those complaining about comfort and reliability I'm betting few have driven a low mileage nearly stock FD. It's one of the quietest, smoothest and comfortable sport cars to ride in. Most of you are driving heavily modified or hacked FDs. I have a bone stock 27k mile car right now that is about as quiet as a Prius.

Sorry for my noob ness but what is the difference in 93-94 interiors?
CA sucks. No short ways around it. My dad gave me his 93 R1 for many reasons. One of which, my county, in PA, is exempt from state emissions testing.
That could change though. However the FD is 20 years old. Which classifies it as a "Classic Car" in PA. Anything over 15 years old and registered as Classic is exempt from emissions testing. In PA we have annual state inspections. Once the FD is 25 years old it can be classified as an Antique and will be exempt from all state inspections.
I concur with many here.
Pros: looks great from all directions. Better than most cars out there now. It is one of Japan's royalty of sports cars. Right up there with Skyline GTR and Toyota Supra.
Handling is phenomenal.
Cons: upkeep and maintenance. MPG.

My FD was COMPLETELY factory stock when I bought it with 48kmi on it. It was SOOOOO quiet and rode real smooth.
Con- trying to jam my gay sausage fingers in to change the plugs. Why the **** is the oil cap so hard to remove. Having to be double jointed to remove the oil filter. All kidding aside really I guess just the interior. I love the looks but when doing repairs or removing panels it's a PITA to make it look how it was originally when clips
Break. Also my idle Adjustment likes to walk out a bit over time.
Pros: power/weight. Extremely easy for the most part to work on IMO, besides the plugs and oil. Maybe not stock but compared to my daily transverse motor it's awesome. Both of my FD's were single turbo and all that stuff so I can't say the loudness is a con. I chose the exhaust knowing well enough my car would sound like a giant vibrator on the inside

Pros: timeless looks, light weight, small frontal area, easily upgradeable suspension, kickass track car.
Cons: interior plastic. Lack of low end power and bad fuel Economy... Fixed with 7.0 liter replacement engine
. 22mpg+ hwy

<-- does not have lack of low end power... must be them useless twins LOL .
car may get a big jerk in power after 3500 this is true , but the car moves fine underthat atleast with my twins .
I've Seen some single turbo cars that have plenty of toque down low , but I've laso been in cars that were dead until it hit 4500

Fritz is my hero. Keep the heretics in line. When I see a transplanted FD, it's dead to me. Not interested.
Pros: everything it was originally designed to be
Cons: everything the bean counters went cheap on.
