the fd's best & worst features?
im not complaining at all... Every car has its pros/cons... i didnt buy my FD to complain about it... i bought it because i wanted something you dont see everyday.. (kinda like my RS). It like a woman.. there are things you like and dont like... but you aint getting rid of her....
Cons: brittle interior plastics, diff mounted transmission, weak 3rd member housing, weak door handles, motor
Pros: easily motor swappable, 2 factory oil coolers, among a ton more of stuff

Pros as I see it,
The esthetic design inside and out, handling, unique booster power plant. Horse power to weight ratio, and rarity of the car.
Cons that annoy me,
Inside:
Shitty interior materials used, such as map lid, passenger door handle, crappy vinyl upholstery, peeling paint finish on 93's. Glove box light that has to be adjusted to keep it off.
Engine bay:
Inferior stock cooling system. Sequential turbo system that is overly complex, with inferior check valves, solenoids etc..
Outside:
Brittle head light covers, stock front bumper that doesn't hold up to exposure to sun long term (gets that's shitty wavy melted look) Factory paint colors suck except for maybe CYM and Chaiste White, not to mention the paint itself is **** quality clear. Worse than Nasom...
The pros to the car far out weight the cons. The car was a design home run. It's a classic as other have already said. The down side is it wasn't built that way, I guess the Mazda brass didn't have enough Faith in the product to use quality materials on it. If the car had been built with the pride, fit finish that it deserved it would have been much better.
Maybe someday a company like Factory Five will start producing a modern FD kit like they do for Cobras... Then you could build one the way you want.

Best: good at being awesome
Worst: bad at being practical (passenger space, fuel economy, emissions, oil consumption, cargo space, parts durability, ride quality, serviceability at non-rotary garages, heat soak, complexity, theft-prone, insurance cost, 3-season driving, etc.)

I guess I don't experience some of the downsides.
Fuel economy in mine has been 22 MPG and I have mid 300WHP. I also don't baby it, it just so happens I can't romp it all the time.
No emissions here.
I have no oil consumption.
Haven't had too many parts durability issues (I changed everything).
Single turbo, not complex. I know how to work on the rotary somewhat, piston cars, yuck.
Insurance is $700/yr for full coverage.
