FD3S RX7 Project Austria
Hi guys!
I wasnt here for a long time.
For those who doesnt remember me, my name is Andreas and i got my fd via ebay from england in september 2007
Well, description sounded really good, but when i stood before the car, it was a real mess. Engine idled rough, battery was near dead and so on but, i drove home with it for over 800 km without a problem.
But then it began, problems problems problems. I started a new topics because i was an absolutely noob with rotary engines ( and still am ).
First, a self called rotary experts near my hometown said he will fix my problem with the idle and i got him the order to replace ALL vacuum hoses. Well, he replaced only the one i already put out, fixed hoses with glue to the plastic, were the nipples broke off and and and.
So i paid a lot of money and the car ran worse than before. So i said to myself, i wanna learn to fix the car and do it myself.
So i replaced the hoses of the rats nest again, the car ran but i had no power. Compression of the engine was on minimum too, so i decided to rebuild the engine.
I did it with the "do it yourself dvd´s" ( 3 different ones ) and the help of mazda malloy ( parts delivery ).
I also eliminated the sequential and went non sequential.
So here my rebuild list:
- engine rebuilt
- heat exchange core ( under the dash panel ) changed
- front mount intercooler ( still to install )
- ARC air filter box ( still to install )
- engine damper ( still to install )
- original Bilstein dampers and springs ( still to install )
- non sequential kit from banzai racing ( installed )
- 3,5" downpipe ( still to install )
- catalytic converter ( installed, midpipe went off the car )
- stock rear muffler installed ( blitz nurspec is waiting for after making the car street legal )
- european headlights installed
- fuses, hoses, ....
Off course, the lazy bug bit me often, but i had some problems too, like end of relationship, like i wrote the self declaimed expert, changed my apartement 2x, car had new problems ( and when you fixed it, you had 2 new problems again ... ).
So first of all, i have two little questions. My problem, i didnt shoot enough pictures and wrote down informations, so could you help me here?
1.) Where do i mount the engine harness? There are 2 clamps to fix the harness to the chassis, one is between the coolant hoses for the heat exchanger and the 2nd clamp is near the transmission.
2.) Where do i mount the ground cable ( which comes with the connector of the CO2 sensor ) ??
I contacted my former japanese teacher for my problem with the japanese instruction manual ( for the front mount intercooler )
Thank you very much for supporting me to finish this long project.

as yours is a JDM, i cant answer on the engine harness.
on the grounding, the engine and the chassis is part of the same ground circuitry, so using either a bolt on the engine, or a chassis bolt with good connection should be enough?
Keep up the good work, man! You`ll have it fixed in no time!

Thank you for your answer.
Yeah i forgot to tell that i own an JDM FD.
I thougth the same about grounding and i will fix that ground wire to the engine block. There is a 2nd ground wire near this one on the picture and i can remember one was attached to the transmission.
Well, i think i have to search for JDM engine room pictures too. Damn, i wish i would have made more pictures at the disassembling...
PS: Thx for your good wishes!

Small update:
I put everything together, but my wiring harness is a real mess...
I tried to start my engine, but it wont crank. I had a charged, good battery and starting help from external generator, but i only hear a fast tick tick tick. The starter is getting hot by the way.
So i turned my engine manually, and you can turn it without problems - well it seems my rebuild is ok so far.
Let me ask you that too, i did the rich mans non sequential, but i dont know at the moment if i need a PFC for going non sequential or if i already can use my stock ecu?

Ah thx a lot, Mahjik. I let the solenoids under the UIM and connected them to the wiring harness ( to avoid error reports ).
So i have to check why my engine would not crank... ( again )

Thx a lot, i read that article allready in the past.
So, picture 13 - 15: I put the original solenoids to the connectors, but did not plug the holes on the solenoids. But i guess it wont make any difference because the ecu will be happy, when the solenoids are connected.
22 -24: I did not remove the thermowax and cold idle cam, but i allready bypassed the coolant hose, so no coolant will go any longer through the throttle body manifold. Is it ok so or should i really remove thermowax and cold idle cam?
37: I didnt port that wastegate hole, but i will not run my engine without the catalytic converter. 3,5" downpipe and my blitz nurspec exhaust will be installed, so i hope i dont get any boost creeps!
