fd3s Omp struggles

I'm trying too replace my Omp on my 92 Jdm and it's ******* impossible
I dropped the plastic scuff pan and located the oil lines and removed
Them. There is absolutely no ways too the three other bolts?? I read a wright up
But I think it was a LHD Becouse some tips was too go between the cradle and
Down pipe too get to the bolts but there's no room with the steering unit in the way??
Is there a way too do it from the top or any tips from anyone who has
Done this in the pass. Really need some help.. Been trying too get her going this is
The last thing I need too do...thanks

Can't recall metering pump access off the top of the head, but recall removing in-car. If you mark the position of the universal joint on the pinion, slide it up and remove it, you might find the going easier. Normally use 1/4" drive in that area too, dicking around with various extension lengths and universals to get there.

I did a write-up some years ago but it was for a LHD. Assuming it's the one you read but just in case... https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...my-how-675341/
Not much help on what would be in the way with a RHD, but have to think there IS a way...from the sound of it probably from the top. It might require removing AP, primary intake elbow and probably even the waterpump housing. But I'd bet there's a way. It's no fun either way. Make sure you replace the copper crush washers and have a new OMP 'O' ring ready to go as it will be flat and you don't want to do it twice for a leak. Maybe post pictures to get some more educated suggestions?

It can definitely be replace with the motor in the car as I have done a bunch of them. Its a tight job but take your time and you should be able to get it.

Well I ended up getting the top front one off...

If this steering shaft wasen't there I would be able too reach my hand up there too get the next two off . I've never taken one off could someone explain exactly how too do this?? I c two places I could loosen off. Do I just loosen these two areas and it should move? What a pita lol

You are absolutely working blind on the car, and have to feel your way around. I found a 4 inch extension with the deep socket and ratchet was about the right length to get onto each bolt....

As said, if the steering shaft is the issue and you're coming from the bottom, mark and remove it, if it's the rack, it can be loosened too. I'm pretty sure I approached it from the top...a wobble bar 1/4" drive is handy for these occasions! Not quite sure if serious about where the bolts are, suppose the join date indicates recent acquisition and new to annoying features, but here's a pic of a front cover.

There's no precontrol or turbo control actuator on this - or pump, but I'd be looking at removing the primary elbow, heater and top turbo coolant hose from above.....probably the turbo drain, if below, to ease the gymnastics.

Ok so I ended up getting the oil lines off and
The top front bolt out by dropping the stability
Bar so my arm would fit. The top one wasent too
Bad now having the part for reference. The bottom
Rear bolt was near impossible but I finally ended
Up having too wedge my left hand as far as I could too
Reach near the Omp, feeling around and trying too visualize
Where abouts I was feeling on the pump.
My right hand had a 10mm deep socket connected too a 3'' and I
Think a 1.5" extension. You need the right angle to get around the steering
Shaft and up near you have too be. You can then grab the end of the extension
With the tips of your fingers, lifting it about a cm move the socket directly too the
Right against the L bracket and push turn until you feel it seat on the bolt.
Now use your left hand too too get a finger on the extention so it stays in place.
Grab the 1/4" ratchet and the is just enough room too click
On. Braking it loose wasn't too bad but keep your left hand on the extension too allow
The ratchet engage as the bolt gets loose. You never know when the bolt is completely
Removed, using a magnetic socket would help greatly.

The top one is not possible without removing something, and too be quite honest my arms where draind and swollen, I really wasent looking forward too searching blindly for a couple more hours so I fighered I would take a look if it would be possible from the top...

I removed the two hks intakes and air pump hose and chamber.
Looking near the area the top bolt was staring me in the face. It looks like a water hose
Is the only thing in my way, the one in BILLYBOY'S picture... What a day I ended up cracking the bolt loose with a short 10mm wrench . Need a short 10mm socket and universal or maybe a gear wrench.... So close. I bet putting it in will be a struggle but now I have a idea too what is in store........

Billyboy, is that coolant line going too **** out everywhere?? Do you suggest draining coolant? Or would there be a easy way too minimize spillage? I am not super familiar with this car and haven't worked on a car for a couple years, but have been trying too learn as much as I can... Having spent 5 hours staring at the bottom of this thing and feeling around in its nooks and crannys makes me feel closer too her lol was verbal abusing her for 4 1/2 hours.. Hope she still loves me lol thanks for the help guys
