FD3S ATTACKED by Suburban Assault Vehicle (SAV), $1500 damage, leaves scene!!!

BWTM.......******* actually does me a favor!

9 years in love without even a door ding, and wham, an SAV Ford
F250 (got his license plate # heh, heh) backs into me in a parking place
and takes out the right front fender completely, but does not touch ANYTHING else! DOH! He books, but not before two witnesses who don't know each other come rushing into the store where I am and yell "Who owns the Red RX-7?" Before I even bother to go out and look, I interview both witnesses (they must have thought I was nuts) in detail and get all the facts. One even has the presence of mind to recite the plate number, description of the driver and what direction he took off and more! COOL....Call the cops and they assure me they'll get his *** since they HATE drivers that flee the scene of an accident, even if no one was hurt.

Here's where it gets even better - when I rolled my fender to fit larger wheels/tires I cracked the paint around the edge so it was already screwed up a little, now it gets fixed for free! AND the guy at the body shop says he'll throw in some minor chip repair n/c since he has to mix up the VR paint custom anyway, and he's getting compensated by the other guy's insurance company very handsomely.

.....but I do have to wait three weeks before the shop I chose can get me in.....Oh the shame and embarassment of having to drive a (temporary) ghetto FD3S!:p

I'm glad it's going to work out, Ron. Perhaps it's time for some Amemiya front fenders?

Well, that guy that did a hit and run to your car still deserves to be beaten! He should get beaten for hitting your car. He gets another one since its an RX-7. He gets beaten again for fleeing! He gets another beating for being such an inconsiderate a-hole. He gets another beating for the possibility of fleeing again in a future accident. Lastly, he needs to go to prison w/ a nice big inmate named "Bubba Joe". After that, thank him for being kind enough to pay for your new paint job.

SAD

Not only for your car but the fact that body shops charge that kind of money for a fender R&R. No wonder insurance rates are what they are.

Great that people were looking out for you.

Yeah, alot of dough to unbolt a fender, bolt a new one in place and paint it. Ridiculous. He said I was REALLY lucky the door and front bumper was not involved because it can get really stupid expensive. It's due to the Mazda parts being stratospheric mainly, not so much his shop time.
(I did pick out the best shop in town, however. Nothing but Bimmers,
Porsches, etc. all waiting patiently for their turn in the spray booth)
Yeah, that's amazing those people were so outraged that the guy ran!
Just when I was beginning to think that Americans are getting so jaded about stuff - it really made me proud to think that they were looking out for someone else's welfare. Good karma, I would do the same for someone else though. The biggest problem with insurance rates are not for responsible drivers, and we're about to see huge spikes for people with bad records, tickets, etc. The insurance companies are going to start using more criteria to figure out how much to charge each individual.
