FD vs M3 vs Modena 360
My RX 7 has full exhaust, intake, and power fc. (30k miles)
Both other cars are brand new.
I have been talking smack to the M3 driver for a little while but now he wants to get the Modena involved.
Whats gonna happen? What criteria would give me the best odds of winning..ie...light or highway start and to what speed?
I am pretty sure that the modena will whip me up but when do u get a chance to race with a car like that?

Personally, I haven't had problems with E46 M3's. I can take them on from a roll and from a charging 700mph and me at 60mph flybye.
But watch out, they are definitely fast for grocery getters.
Ferrari 360 Modena. Hmmm. Don't know there dood.
Only way to find out is to have a friendly race. make sure you do it with someone nice. You'd hate to hear him tell stories how his six figure car walked on you 3 bus lengths or some exaggeration like that.

Well the F360 has 400bhp at the flywheel which is probably around 370 or so at the wheels...it has a shorter drivetrain so I imagine the driveline loss is a bit less than a front-rear layout. Plus mid engined cars seem to be able to launch pretty good too. In all honesty I'd say you'll get beat by the 360 as it likely has more hp and weighs about the same or even less than an FD. Not to mention that it's a high revver too and is made to charge from a roll. The ones I saw at Summit Point were hellaceous down the front straight. Either way definately try to get some pics or vid of it

The current M3 is very fast in the midrange and not to be underestimated. The Jan. 14th issue of Autoweek shows these times:
20 - 40 mph 2.2 sec
40 - 60 mph 2.3 sec
20 - 40 mph 2.2 sec
40 - 60 mph 2.3 sec

Modena Performance:
0-62 in 4.5s
1/4 in 12.6s
Weight: 2,844lbs
With your mods, you probably have a mid-high 12s car.
The way I see it....
It will be a walk in the park with you and the M3.
The Modena is a different story, though. From a stop, he will most likely edge you. From a roll, he will still edge you up till about 140 or so. When you shift into 5th, you will be at such a low rpm, that he will begin to greatly pull on you. The thing is that he has a LOT more HP than you do enabling him to get you top end. Technically, we have a lower cd than he does. .29 compared to their .36 or so, but he WILL hug the road better, though.
I raced a 996 turbo with the exact same setup you have. Except that I have an efini y-pipe and the secondary throttle butterflies removed. We were both neck-n-neck till we let down around 140 or so. I knew he wasnt happy because he gave me the evil eye
If he DOES kill you, it won't be by bus lengths. Just make sure you stomp on it first

Enough of this bench racing, just race!
I think you'll take the M3..
360 Modena will be pretty tough...should be a close race from a dead stop depending on who's the better driver...from a roll...i think the Modena will spank you.
Don't forget to double clutch, and shift mad qwik y0!

beats me, just an OT FATF 'racing tip' reference
matty> when was the last time you dyno'd your car? that should give you a rough estimate of where you stand. Most 1/4 mile figures you see in mags and from manufacturers are performed by professional drivers...most of us aren't of that caliber, so it's not uncommon to see an FD with straight through exhaust running only low 13's. Same thing applies to Ferraris, or any car for that matter.
If you have an aftermarket clutch and flywheel, that might also help you to beat him.

Before modern gearboxes had synchromesh gears, it helped greatly to "double clutch" when shifting.
1. press in clutch
2. move gear to neutral
3. let clutch out
4. push clutch back in
5. shift to desired gear

Double clutch
I know semi trucks do it... but sometimes when they do it worng they blow the welds on their intake... LOL . Any who.. Don't back down to the 360 And yes be the first to the gas pedal!! The REDSUNS never loose except to the bloody AE86 oops there goes my bad sense of humor again. All that said it should be close but if you haven't got him by 4th gear wave your hands and say goodbye!:p

To be honest with you, the only think that matters here is who is a better driver(the performance on this 3 cars is irrelevant in this situation=they all are fast as hell street cars)
Good luck and make sure that you post some feedback after the race.
