I was 26 years old when I bought my 93 Red FD brand new on July 27th 1992. I traded in my '85 GSL-SE and my wife's 90 Prelude SI to get it. I had to drive her to work every morning for a couple of months until I could afford to buy her an 84 RX-7 GS to fix up and have her drive!
10 years later I still love that FD. Now it has the ultimate engine upgrade.... a 20B Turbo.
Sure for all the $$$ I have spent on this car..... I could've had a Porsche 911 or something. But, it wouldn't be a ROTARY!
Besides I see more 911's on the road then FD RX-7's.

Older guy's that buy FD's are passionate about cars. Older guy's that buy C5's are going though a second childhood. there are exceptions.

It is weird, but in our RX club (Austin ,TX), there seems to be a mutual respect for the FD owner no matter what the age of the driver is! We all just love rotaries in general. And I am one of the few who have owned one since it was new!

The upscale rebadging was done because the US put a limit on imports. It started with Harley Davidson trying to ban V-twin japanese bikes. The rebadging was a loophole that allowed them to get around the import limit that was passed in to law. Just like in patents, they changed it a little bit (more upscale) for the loophole and in an ironic twist it became to their advantage. Harley Davidson could not stop the japanese v-twins but they did patent their engine sound. They should patent their female pleasing bike shaking rattle as a vibrator "lol".

I think I was 28 when the FD came out. I loved the way it looked and the way it drove. But I thought it cost too much (out of college 3 yrs) and I looking into buying my first home (by myself). I bought the house instead and kept my FC. I kept waiting for the FD to depreciate which it never did for a long time. Well after a few job hops and the eventual FD depreciation I finially bought one when I could more easily afford it. Still wish I'd had bought one new and babied it but I think I made the right decision. Sold the house recently for a nice profit...

BTW I bought my FD from a hot Hawaiian tropic model 3 years ago. Girls do buy FD's (and not mod them)

I wish I did. She did a very good job of distracting me from looking into all the car's imperfections I think she knew what she was doing

I just made sure I got it cheap enough to cover everything I thought might be wrong.

Cool

I'm glad to see 16 to 21-year olds driving my "old fart" FD car.

I figure if enough of these punks get themselves killed or the punks total enough FDs, we "old farts" who ARE the intended market for the FD will have the last few FD cars in collectible status.

On top of that, the gene pool just got a whole lot better with the 16 to 21-year old punks killing themselves during stoplight races. The young and the stupid, will have died off, leaving behind only the young and the SMART.

I say to all you, STUPID 16 to 21-year olds--keep buying those FDs, kids! You don't need to be in college preparing to make a life for yourself. Keep working that sh*t job to pay for your FD's gas money (I'll take my BK Whopper with O-rings, NOT fries thank you very much!)

Even better--leech off of your parents. You'll make them feel better because THEY weren't there for YOU when things really mattered (during the formative years) because they were too busy working on their careers so they can have the things they want, instead of being really good parents.

This is the same mentality I have. I've poured alot of money and time into my car over the years, and I'm at a point where I can consider selling it at a decent price, or keeping it to build my life long car collection.

I figure the FD will be a timeless classic. Imagine going for a weekend drive in a beautiful strong FD 20 years from now. This car = memories. Since life is short, why not cherish your memories

Oh wouldn't it be great, having the FD, rx-8, next gen rx-7, and all the other future generations in a nice long garage.
