Just FYI the RX-8 master cylinder will not work no way no how. They are angled since the brake booster is kind of at an angle in the engine bay.

Paul Ko and i put an Rx8 master and booster in an FC, it worked. i'm not sure what i was expecting, but it kind of didn't make any difference
the Rx8 also had a different pedal ratio, so its probable that if you wanted the FC/FD to feel like an Rx8 you'd need to change that too.

Thank you for the info. I did the rebuild yesterday using a 626 MC. The internals on mine were a bit different than the FD’s, but I was able to use all the seals and o-rings. I used a Brake Best brand because I was able to grab it locally. It works perfectly! I ended up using the 626 reservoir also… it had a bump of extra plastic where the nipple should have been. I drilled and tapped it then added a fitting. Everything else lined up perfectly with the FD’s master cylinder’s body.

Photo of the reservoir actually in the FD engine bay. BTW, the hydraulics bled perfectly and this FD has brake and clutch pressure for the first time in more than a decade!

What year 626 master cylinder did you end up using? My reservoir is cracking and if the 626 reservoir will work with my stock master cylinder that will help get my car back on the road.

I went ahead and purchased Banzai Racing Centric 1" 929 master and brake line conversion kit.

I wanted a drop in solution and have grown to trust Chris Sander's products and his judgement on other brands parts.

I will drop another post on this thread if its anything other than the usual drop in replacement.

the OP used the 93-97 master to REBUILD the FD master.

the 98-02 is a larger bore and is like the 929 upgrade to REPLACE the FD master

Interestingly, I just discovered that they tend to use Lancer Evolution 7/8/9 boosters and master cylinders (1 and 1/16") for big brake kits in Japan. Not sure exactly how much machining is required to make it fit.
I suppose that's an option if you want an outrageously stiff pedal. Haha.

I bought this one and swapped in the whole thing. Had to make new lines again but the pedal doesn't feel much stiffer. Although this was a year and a half ago so maybe I just don't remember what the pedal feel was like.

I have the 626 MC which is the same bore as the 929 and I'm on RZ brakes which use the same amount of fluid as the original OEM brakes. The pedal doesn't feel any stiffer to me, if it is, it isn't much. You should be fine.

This thread worked perfectly for me. Ordered the 93-97 626 MC from Rockauto ($30), and sure as **** the internals measured out exactly the same as the OE FD ones, so I swapped it all over (plunger, seals, and all). It went together perfectly and appears to hold pressure, more testing to come of course but looks good.

Can you please tell me which one you ordered on Rockauto? Part number??? They all show 15/16 bore

15/16 is the right bore to rebuild the OEM FD M/C. 1" is an upgrade/replacement, there were two different things discussed in this thread.

This is what I ordered, which it's internals were identical to the FD internals.

1995 MAZDA 626 2.5L V6 CARDONE 112672 Master Cylinder
Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty

The car is still on jackstands, but I've bled the system after this and it's holding pressure just fine. I'd say this is a win.
