Brake master cylinder replacement
Brake master cylinder replacement
I need a "best replacement" brake master cylinder for my all original '88 RX-7 convertible. Does anyone have any suggestions re: Mazda parts sources?
I may have found a proper Dorman master cylinder online,...I'd like to compare before I buy it.
Thank you.

well there is a mazda part on atkins rotary if you need an exact orgional: https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/8...2-43-400D.html
Thanks, Necrodead. I kinda needed to move along with this project, so I made some calls. I found a nearly exact replacement at Autozone - believe it, or not! 'Duralast', with a limited lifetime replacement warranty,...New, with a new sensor, and a master cylinder bleed kit, too.
Appearance is identical, down to the casting. I did swap the cap out, to use my 1988 cap,...the only obvious difference in the two brake master cylinders. And the master was not expensive - with tax, total came to just over $80.
Bled without any difficulty, and awaits my installation, today.
Perhaps this info will help another forum member, at a later date!
Later, dudes,...

I bought a Cardone branded one from Rockauto in 2019. So far so good. Unfortunately, my receipt doesn't say if it was new or remanufactured but I'm thinking new as I never sent back a core and I wanted one with a reservoir included.
Thanks, Dak. Autozone required no core, either. And appearance of this brake master is absolutely identical, down to the screw and washer on the lower casting. With my old cap, it's indistinguishable from the original.
Now, to carefully clean up the brake fluid mess on the frame rail, and do something to keep it from oxidizing. I'll have to think of an inventive way of getting anything onto the frame rail, without getting it all over the original stuff,...I have some ideas.
