the 93 ones really do crack. One of mine cracked at 70k miles for no reason. I was lucky I noticed it while washing my car the entire spoke was seperated and I had been driving in a spirited fashion like I always did.

Here's the pic from 7racer's link:

The easy way to spot them is the backside of the hub on the "weak" wheel has square depressions, and the backside of the hub on the improved, stronger wheel has bell shaped depressions.

Everyone I know is willing to trade some weight for the confidence that your wheels won't crack and fall off the car

The funny thing is that the "older" type have been seen with later casting dates. I got some of the so called "weaker" wheels off a MINT 95 R2 with the later casting date than would have been found on any 93.

Same here, my 94 had the "weaker" style wheels. I thought that maybe it was becasue my car is Canadian Spec, but according to turbojeff this is not as unusual as I originally thought.

Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the wheels. I'm sure some owners of some FDs could look at thier wheels and take pics of the back side and the casting dates on the front side.

My 93 R1 had the "stronger" type wheels on it. I bought the car in '98 w/36K miles from the original owner. The likely hood that he had changed the wheels with another set of stockers is pretty low. The casting date on the wheels was 1/92 or 2/92. That matched pretty well with my car's 2/92 build date. One of the earlier FDs.
