FD rear brake spring?

Hey everyone.
I'm changing the rotors and pads on my jdm fd, and noticed that the service manual indicates that there should be a spring present (see pic). I didn't notice any such spring when taking them apart (was very careful, and looked for it).

So i'm wondering if this spring is necessary? Is it a north american exclusive thing? Or did the previous owner just lose it?

-Thanks guys

When I did mine there was a spring there, so I'm guessing that the previous owner lost it.

Its there to reduce noise. People often neglect to put it back when doing brakes.

I leave them off on track, but use them on the street.

Might find, if there's aftermarket pads installed, there's not the same provision to use that spring clip.....and probably why it was left out.

FWIW- I've used Carbo-Techs and Hawk DTC-60's, and HPS's, and they all had the provision for the spring.
