Unhappy FD Prices in Japan

I was bored at home before work so i hoped into Japanese Used car site and found out the prices for the FD stock/modded in japan. Its sad to say that most of our FD costs about USD5,000~7,000 with milege of 50,000. A found a 95 rx7 touring (75,000mile)for $7~$8,000 with full body kit and some mods....note that all the motor and turbo is pre-inspected with compression stated on a document. Here is the price for 1993 FD R1 with single turbo T88, Blitz FMIC, Clutch, exhaust, power FC, etc...(full modded) with milge of 43,000. $8,000 with full compression on motor. lol damn this makes me wanna sale my FD and move back to Japan and buy one of those with money left in my pocket......

Oh yea, by the way in Japan if your car has over 100,000miles its considered as a junk no matter what you've done to your car. And its re-sale price drops to $2,000 ~ 4,000 lol since most of the used FD in japan has only 50,000miles or less. so, why are we paying soo much money on junks over at US? It might turn out to be much cheaper to buy one in Japan and ship it over to US...though the hassle of registering and smogging is a pain....(i wouldnt do it..)

Maybe because gas is about 1/4 the cost, we don't have to pay for a parking space to own a car, and it is generally much cheaper to own a car in the USA. It will not be cheaper to buy an FD in japan and have it legalized. The FD also barely stopped production in Japan whereas it hasn't been sold new for over 8 years in the USA now.

as long as the FD is from 93-95 you should be able to brnig it over here since everything on the car is the same and it should be legal. someone did that with a car, but I can't remember which one.

My guess is in the numbers. FDs were sold in the U.S. for only 3 years ('93 - '95), in Japan, about 10 ('92 - '03?). There's probably 5 times as many FDs over there than there are here.

I hope the FD continue to retain its value in the US.

Wonder why a Hemi Dodge cost so much since they are really old...

Really, we have totally different rules in the good old US of A. Cars don't have mileage or age limits.

Move back to Japan so you can get a good deal on a car you can't drive anywhere? Come back here and drive across the country and have some FUN!

turbojeff,
absolutely right about when cars get old in japan. absolutely wrong about the roads. plenty of twisties and the highways are mostly awesome (even thought they are expensive).

You should see the prices in Australia. We have to pay $26,000 to $30,000US for one here and generally the wages are lower. Although we only get one model here which is the model with everything except climate control.
