Are FD Owners Deceitful

Here is my story about why we need to question our selfs. I recently bought a 93 CYM R1. I got for 11,500, and had been in front accident, but repaired. It was repainted, and was running great.

Have had some problems since then and now I know why. While wondering where my boost is going, and why I overheat way too much, I decided to check anything and everything that would have anything to do with everything. First stop dash. I turned the key on one click, and noticed something right away....when you turn one click, are all the idiot lights suppose to light up? Yes and why isn't my check engine light coming on??? hmmmm...... Well i decided to investigate. I pulled the gauge surround off and started looking.... I found what I thought I would find but was shocked that I actually found this horrible act. The check engine light had been disconnected. I wasn't sure if I should have been Happy to find something and fix the problem, or pissed because a fellow FD owner tried and succedded in deceiving me.

Well now to the question.....why do we do this? I know all people are like this, but are we FD owners held to a little higher integrity or are we just like joe schmoe selling his honda that has run without oil for three years, but has oil when you take it for a test drive. Where do we fit on the scale of truthfullness. I would hope as a FD owner, (even though it isn't great) would be a little more truthfull, because of the rank of the car on the automobile hierarchy. Let me know I would love to hear.

Also If you have recently sold a CYM 93 R1 In arizona area, pm me I would love to talk with you. Maybe go out for a beer, and a bullet. Hit me up.

Sorry about the length

Ever heard of "Buyer be ware"?

It's a car guy, not a secret society.

You just learned a lesson the hard way (same way I did). No matter what, get the car checked out by a professional (or at least someone who knows what to look for).

Yeah, that is a stupid statement. Any type of person can buy an FD provided their credit is approved or they have the cash on hand. You should have titled the post 'I got screwed and I want to vent'. Not a flame, just want to clarify that you can't stereotype people by what model car they drive.

Yeah I think Mahjik is right, I agree it was a less than honest thing to do but it happens all around, and yes even with FD's. Again like Mahjik said you don't have to belong to any secret society, take any special honesty tests or anything of the sort so it should be looked upon as any other car buying experiance but be even more weary because of the FD's reputation to be cranky.

Just because most of the people on this forum have nothing but respect for the FD doesn't mean that -everyone- feels that way. Amazingly enough, although almost everyone owns a car, a relatively small number of us could actually be considered "auto enthusiasts". A car like the RX-7 is sure to have a larger-than-average number of auto-enthusiast owners, but you're still going to get people who just bought the car because it looked good and they figured they'd get more chicks with it. As a matter of fact, even some of the forum-members are like that. Check out the posting on "what kind of chicks does the RX-7 pull?". I'm sure you've learned your lesson, but I would tend to trust NO ONE when it comes to buying a used car, especially one as notoriously fidgity as an FD.

i have two bottles of youth elixor for sale and three fd seller tracer bullets.

the bullets are amazing...you simply load them into a 19th century powder rifle and fire toward the sun. two days later the guy who sold you the car hits the dirt.

asking price 600.00 for all four

youth elixor 450.00

i accept paypal.

Funny story...The FD I bought wasn't running correctly, told the people on this forem about it and someone said, "That's an easy fix...work the price down" . So I did and bought a car non running perfect...and now where I take people for a ride they're looking for something for the other hand to hold on too!

I got really lucky in my FD search. I wanted an 95 R2, so I waited forever till I could find one. So finally I found one in Ft. Lauderdale for sale...well I live in MI and didn't want to fly there to look at the car so I did a ton of talking with the guy who owned it and made him send me all the repair forms...did some research and bought the car without ever seeing it.....man it turned out great.

What kind of FD was this? California spec or non? On a Ca spec FD sometimes the EGR valve gives an error and turns the light on. Either you replace/fix it or disconnect the check engine light. But, then you don't know if anything else goes wrong.

Didn't you read his post? He said the previous owner disconnected the check engine light and didn't tell him about it.

You bought a CYM for 11,500 and you're bitching 'cos the check-engine light was disconnected? Did I read that right? Have you seen how much a good CYM goes for?

Yeah I think he did read the post, I think he was trying to say the previous owner might have disconnected the check engine light because of EGR problems. I think he was trying to give his theory on why it might have been unplugged or just something to check out.

I did that for a FC, flew to MN from San Francisco only to find a rust bucket, completely different from what was discussed on the phone, needless to say I didn't buy it just because I wasted $900 on the flight. (two people, round trip)

Mine's been cut too. When I finally figured you can pull the codes through the diagnostics connector, I got a fault for the Oil Metering Pump... As luck would have it the turbos are leaking oil so it was lubricating that way for a year and a half!

Two words - due diligence.

I (along with others on this forum) take offense at you calling us "we". Most of the guys here love their cars to death and beyond and go to great lengths to help each other. If you are so ******* stupid to buy a used car -any car- without checking it out completely then you deserve to be screwed - but don't DARE come here and accuse "us" of being deceitful.

The car is 10 years old for chrissakes, and if you don't possess the knowledge to know what you are buying, or are too cheap to hire someone that does, then too damn bad: go cry in your beer somewhere else.

"Boo hoo, I got dicked....... and not my fault!"

Grow up and join the real world. I hate whiney-*** complainers like you.

And yeah, I'm in trouble with the mods for dissing you so hard - so what? Go buy a used Honda.

I learned that somebody had overheated my car before I bought it resulting in the coolant seals failing after I put on about 9K miles. I didn't argue because I got a streetport and now I know that this new engine was under my care rather than somebody elses problem. Thecar is 8-10 years old and you never know what you're getting with any FD. This car isn't for the patient person or the weak hearted. Your going to encounter other things with your FD that the previous owner wasn't hiding - you'll probably just blame him for not telling you about it. Enjoy the car - it is the one of the most gratifying cars to drive made (especially modded) but it somes at expense of headaches and money - learn to live with it or sell it.

No bullshit but the same thing happened to me. More of a reason for me to rebuild it and get a streetport, though the car was on its last legs(88,000miles) so I kinda expected it. I love my car now.
