Fd Owner.. In the future.. Needs ur input!

Hello Guys...

I currently own an Evo... I am looking to sell my car and buy this guy's Rx7.
Due to college w/ in a few months I needed something cheaper... So that's why I kinda decide to go w/ the rx7 because it looks really nice and i'm hoping to be an owner of one of the legendary car(japanese)... Lol? I don't know if that's true but anyhow....

Here is the following mods of the rx7 that i will be getting...

It has a gt40 turbo in it. It's not the ball bearing ones... But he told me that I will make more gains than the ball bearing..but more lag also.. The engine was rebuilt about 500 miles ago(pretty much new). He has obviously all the supporting mods. All the internals are stock. Stock apex seal but brand new from Mazda dealer. Exhaust, power fc, greddy fmic, koyo radiator, new oil cooler(idk what but aftermarket as well)., etc.. I can't remember any more.. but there were more parts... All these parts are pretty much brand new because it was only 500 miles on them. Oh and it was rebuilt of course.

The only problem is that the car is untune...
So with tune. What am i expecting in terms of numbers?..
This is going to be my daily driver. So I need it to be somewhat very reliable.
Also any tuning shops in Boston, MA area?.
I'm hoping to buy this car soon...
Oh.. btw - The whole front end is carbon fiber.. hehehe

Thank you guys.
Have a nice day.

Depends on who does the tuning on what numbers you will get...

And the RX7 is going to probably end up being just as much as the evo... Maintenance is due more often and the rotary motor needs more TLC than a pistion engine. I just said this in another post..... If you are on here asking these types of questions you have not done your research on the FD and need to do a LOT more before buying one. I don't mean to flame... and im not.... but you need to do a LOT of reading before you jump into this one. The FD is not really a good choice for a car to keep around campus. Keep your evo or get another nice car that won't need as much attention.

bad idea. If you're looking for something cheaper than the Evo, get an S2k or something. An FD will run you in to the ground with maintnence costs.

Turbo rotaries are not for people on strict budgets or limited incomes. Only get the FD if you plan on taking the bus 3/4th of the year.

Keep the evo.

You want to give up a reliable quick awd turbo car with a warranty and get a unreliable turbo FD that will suck your bank account dry?

How much will you think you will be saving if you get the FD?

Like people said, if your income isnt strong or you dont have a daily driver, dont get the FD.

Keep the Evo if you want something cheap...they are fantastic cars!

The rx-7 sounds nice...pick it up as a fun weekend car.

If you had done your research then you would have known that about the FD. It is not something that we hide. The evo is a great car. Few on here will deny that and I think there are a couple guys on here that have em for daily drivers. Good luck in school. I am sure if you really would like to own an FD there will be a good one hanging out in 4yrs for you.

Yeah why not? The evo is a GREAT car.

Already fast stock, it has awd, its reliable, it has a warranty and potential to make power easy and cheap is out there to find in less than a second.

Maint on FD's CAN be high depending on the situation and if you have done your research, its a possibility you WILL run into these problems early in your ownership if you decide to get that FD you posted.

I mean read the threads in this section everyday, you'll see. Imagine going through what these guys are posting.

Its a great car but i honestly think theres more downtime than enjoy time.

I sold my STI for my FD b/c it was more fun to drive than the subaru and i wanted one for over 10 years. However its not my daily driver and i dont depend on it go get me to work. If your going to be going to school the FD would not be the best choice.Id stick with the Evo or go another route.

I traded in an 05' STI for a FD and instead of paying a 600$ a month car payment. I now spend over $1000 in parts.

I miss the reliability, and 10k $, but when my car is where I want it no STI or EVO will compare (to me).

weird I didn't see that post....I have also always wanted a fd

Believe it or not. I do love my evo to death. But other things that i take into consideration is the car payment. I am a student. Working pretty much full time at my aunt's restaurant...
So i am looking for something that would suit my .... age?... my .. wealthiness?...

ok you are a student, that pretty much means the fd is not for you unless you have a beater for school and daily driving.

also you wont be driving the fd in snow like you did with the evo.

Yeah man--I'm in Boston right now. Look out the window--you won't be driving in this, haha. The evo has the nice gravel setting on it's advanced-as-hell drivetrain. I reccomend you sell the evo if you can't afford the payments, and look at the older Impreza's. Evo's hold their value like crazy, but the older Impreza's are cheap, quick, not incredibly hard to find, and can definitely handle Boston's winters. Reliability is not what these cars are about--they're about having a ton fun and feeling pride--they're unique. It's a car with personality--you kinda form relationships with them. These factors are why people are patient, and why they stick with their cars problem after problem--and trust me, you'll have problem after problem with an FD. Given, I'm a newb, haha--but I have a couple friends with modded Evo's and STi's. You can beat the hell out of those cars, and besides faulty clutches, they'll never call it quits. The FD is on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Much respect,
-Matt

eeh... non ball bearing GT40? I smell ebay. xs power makes a similar turbo with "garrett internals", and its hard to tell the difference between a GT4082 Journal Bearing and the XS Power with "garrett internals". Can you get some pics of the turbo?

It needs a "tune"? This is what he told you? Maybe it has a blown motor, and he is just telling you that it needs to be tuned. Regardless if it was just rebuilt. I have a friend that blew his motor right after the break-in period. Sometimes its hard to tell without doing a compression check, especially for somebody that dosent know allot about rotaries.

Its more than likely that its a legit deal, but sometimes people do that sorta ****, and its hard to tell if your not experienced.

How much are you buying this for?

Keep the EVO or buy something cheap like an SI if you are going to school.
The FD maintenence will eat you alive.

BTW the FD you are looking at sounds like crap. Find one with low miles and nearly stock and hopefully with reliability mods done by someone who knows what they are doing. These cars are worth more stock than modified/butchered by some unknowing fast and furious poser.

I'd say to go for an AP1 S2000. You can usually find one for around the same ammount as an FD, and it has honda reliability...and a drop top I'm actually looking to get an AP1 to daily drive, and I drive over 1000 miles a week.

Also, with an FD, you've got to consider this. On a good year, $2-3k in maintnence can be expected. Oil changes have to occur very frequently, coolant flushes have to occur anually, all other fluids bi-annually, the car gets 10-15mpg on a good day...On a bad year, you can look at $5k+ in maintnence.

The FD is a phenominal car, I wouldn't trade mine for anything in the world, but it's not for someone who isn't stable. Unless you buy a V8 FD, but IIRC, the V8 owners not only ripped the car of its heritage, but they are also ripping off the buyers for selling them at double what they are worth.

Thanks all for the answers guys...

He is asking for 11,300?... Doesn't sound that bad?...
It does come w/ extra wheels as well ( volk wheels).. Looks really nice..
Also all the stock parts too..
Well.. He just selling the car due to no time to drive it. He is looking to sell it for a house downpayment. So I am assuming that he needs some quick cash. That's why the price was pretty low.

he has all the reliable mods. , new radiator, etc....

The only thing that it hasn't been done is just a really good tune from someone that can tunes rotary.

He says that right now you don't want to go higher than 6k rpm because it's not really tuned yet.

Do you think it could be ebay ones?... Lol..
He mentioned to me that he has all the receipts for it. (around $20k)...
Which seems like A LOT! to me....
He also mentions this website to me as well... So I am pretty sure that he was a fellow here...
