Question Fd oil pressure low

When I start car the oil pressure is high then it goes down to bout 30psi@ idle. Thats good right? Then after 15 minutes of driving it gets real low. Nearly 0@ idle and about 30@ 3000rpm. Should I be concerned? and what could be the problem? I just bought the car and it was in storage for 4 years. I changed oil twice when I first got it and again after 500 miles with 10w30.

Short answer - it's the oil pressure sender. Call Ray at Malloy Mazda (888-533-3400) and get a new one for about $80. You'll be good to go.

You might want to check the connector on the sensor before replacing the sensor itself. Malloy charges around $120 for that sensor IIRC.

I just had this problem a couple weeks ago - the crappy stock connector had become so loose that it read correctly when cold, but as soon as the car got warmed up and moving, the gauge dropped close to zero. Occasionally cornering or hitting a bump would fix it for a moment, but then it would drop back down. I originally suspected the sensor, but this behavior made it pretty obvious that it was a continuity problem.

So I cut off the stock female connector and replaced it with a standard .25 female spade connector, which fits snugly on the sensor's male terminal. Now it works perfectly again.

In this case, replacing the sensor itself wouldn't even fix the problem, because there would still be a continuity problem between the gauge and sensor.

oh... thanks DigDug, i'd really like to just replace a connector than have to replace the whole sha-bang. i have noticed that its fine when its warm and starts to go weird when its cold. also, same happens with bumps and some corners, etc.
