Purolator Pure One PL14610,

Size: similar specs to our stock one, but larger volume.

Manufacturer: Purolator makes many OEM filters, possibly the Mazda also. Subaru OEM filters say Purolator on them, and I think I've seen that Mazda filters are (or were) made by Purolator, on Steve Ciriani's website.

Ive been using oem filters but recently tried the bosch performance filters. Anyone have any input on the efficacy of this particular brand.

Uhhh...it doesn't say they're OEM anywhere. Yea sure Denso makes some OEM parts for the FD, but is there anything to indicate these are the same filters, just not badged as Mazda's? Cuz that site also sells the el-crapo FRAM filters.

my friend cross checked the part number B6Y1143029A with mazdaformance and it was confirmed it was a match to oem. also from the outside it looks and feels and weights the same as stock. i have yet to cut both in half though and inspect, but for $2 you cant lose when your changing oil every 2-3k.

this was a great relief for me since i was using k&n filters which dont come cheap esp. when your running it with redline oil.

I've tried the PureOne filter, and being taller than the OEM filter, it interfered with the fast idle cam on my engine...

I've always been happy with the OEM filter.

That's why I use PureONE #PL14612 (instead of PL14610). "612" is stock size and it can be purchased at any ADVANCED AUTO. For me, the nearest MAZDA dealership isn't real convenient.
....and it comes in a sick blue metal-flake

wrong answer, all filters have one way valves.

-------------------------

fram ...

if a filter is not installed tight on some cars, frams are more prone to blow the rubber gasket, vs other filters. I laid down an oil slick with a fram (porsche924T) at summit point, and while installing new filter off track, several mentioned they had seal blow outs too, a least one was a honda. As I recall, in my case, fram seal was thicker and/or groove was not as deep as with others ... easier to blow out.
