FD newbie Q about the Auto FD

was wondering how do you get the shifter to go into neutral from park? car has no battery and when i tried putting the key in the on position and pressed the break pedal it still would not move??? am i missing something? i saw a hole near the shifter area, do i just stick something in there to remove the shifter lock???
