Unhappy FD got hit tonight

sup guys, this is one of the few reasons i wish i never have to make a thread about my fd..well tonight going home from work, my car got hit..not its not serious at all, its actually rather minor but the whole story of it is kinda ironic..

well let me first say that i take the sammmmeee route going home from work everyday, no extra shortcuts or anything (job is 2 miles away)..well tonight is the drawing for the mega millions lottery, so every tuesday and friday night after work, i go to the gas station which is about 3 blocks from my house..tonight, i get to the gas station to buy the tickets before i go home, i park in the handicapp spot because i noticed the gas station is relatively packed at this time of day..i see this girl with a focus or some sort park perpendicular to my car (she's on the left side) and i look at her and she looks at me and i think nothing of it..i get in the gas station and notice the line is long for the lottery tickets so im waiting, constantly looking out the door cause my car is on (dont wait it to heatsoak yet lol)..so anyway, that same girl i saw came in and was looking for an atm, some guy told her there is no atm at this gas station..so she left, im still staring out the door, just looking around but mostly at my car, make sure no one jacks my ****.. so i see the girl put it in reverse but stops for a moment, i guess she's trying to figure out how to get out cause its a bit tricky but really, any beginner can get out of her spot..so she backs up and im like, "yeah she saw my car, you got it you got it"..she starts cutting to the right, slowly inching closer to my car in reverse..and looking from the gas station store, i can feel myself turning into shock, my mouth is getting dry all in a matter of seconds cause i know she's gonna hit it..well what do you know, i see my car jerk in movement and im like ****!! and ran outside..

the stupid thing about this next moment is that i walked toward her car to the passenger side and she asked me, "do you know where there's an atm?" and im fuming right now but in a calm voice i said, "no but you just hit my car!!"..so she got out and inspected my left side of the rear bumper and theres an abrasion about 7 inches long 3 inches wide..there was no dent and the bumper is still intact thank god, theres only an abrasion..

so im freaking out cause i never been in a situation liek this before, i never gotten into an accident nor been in a situation where someone i know got into an accident so i was going blank..she offered to give me her name number address and license plate number and some money because she had to leave..i accepted the money and took all her information..

this really sucks cause i saw the whole act right before my eyes, im kinda mad at myself cause i assume that people will try to be careful but no, theres always accidents and i figured that because i live in new jersey..

it was weird though, as soon as i saw my car jerk to the side cause she hit it, i just tasted my ***, my face became cold and pale and i felt like the whole world just stopped..it was a scary feeling..i mean i try my ultimate best to keep this car running right, im always washing every week or 2 to maintain the 13 year old original paint and when something like this that could be prevented, it makes me mad..

ill take pics of what it looks like..

i have a question though, what would be an estimate price on just having the rear bumper painted?

A guy rolled into the back of me last summer. We were at a stop sign and the car in front of me started to go, but decided not to because of traffic. I saw him start to move so I did to, but of course I stopped. The guy behind me saw that I let off the brake and inched forward and he just kept rolling forward looking out the side window. I could see that he wasn't going to stop but I couldn't go anywhere. I was just sitting there thinking "hmmm...****...he's gonna hit me!" So I know the feeling, although I didn't go pale and freak out, but I was a little agitated.

Anyway, I was quoted $200 to repaint the whole rear bumper by a reputable local shop. There wasn't any damage, just some scuffs.

Depends on the color, if matching is needed, your state's regulations on professional paint shop emissions, and whether you do them a favor by removing it from the car first. I'll bet it's a couple hundred bucks if the plastic isn't scratched deeply.

Good thing is you're jersey. You can pour arsenic in the river if you want

yeah thats what i was going though!!

there was a time gap of about 2 seconds to where i knew she was gonna hit me til the time she actually hit me..so even if i wanted to run out there and stop her, it was too late..but i saw the **** coming, i was about 50 feet away plus the gas station store door and im watching the whole thing through the door.. i had that gut feeling and i denied it and thats why im mad at myself too..

in my feeling, since the whole car is practically immaculate is that i want to paint the rear bumper but i showed the car to my mom and she didnt even notice it at first, she had to bend down and look closely at the bumper to notice the scuffs..

i mean i plan on repainting the car anyway when i go 99 spec so should i leave it? maybe use any compound i can to make it go away temporary?

Lesson number 1 - Don't play the lottery. You need all the luck you can muster to own an RX-7.

Lesson number 2 - Don't go near places where they sell lottery tickets. All the people there have already used up all their luck - especially when it comes to backing up into things.

Lesson number 3 - Stay out of handicapped parking spots if you're not handicapped. God is watching.

Sorry for the damage, neverthess. I hate to see nice cars get banged.

actually, i been doing this routine for over a year now (yes i been playing lotto that long, perhaps even longer lol) and only tonight is when something bad happened..i dont think its karma of any sort, just coincidence that it was my turn to get hit with a little bad luck..i just wish i was driving the beater civic today, i would have cared less if she took off my driver door..

You could probably rub it out or most of it out with some rubbing compound but it depends on how deep it is.

Sorry to hear that man.

I remember one of my boys had this handicapped tag (that you hang on the rear view mirror) from his mom...and we were gonna use it once cuz parking was HORRIBLE, and there was a handicapped spot right front and center... until we saw an old feeble man walking out of the store... made us think twice, and we went and parked where we should park... It's just a matter of perspective really. Leave it for the people who need it.

As for doing it consistantly, in my culture, we have a saying, "Indeed, God may postpone, but He never forgets..." So He let it slide once, twice, 20 times, etc but when you don't get the point, more drastic signs are necessary. Not trying to get self-righteous on you, cuz I thank God soooooo much due to the close calls I've had from my psycho type driving, but consequently I've toned it down...a LOT.

I'd give the girl back her money, and get a good body shop's estimate. Offer to have her pay it or go through insurance, whichever she chooses, and call it a day.

vintage red is a 3 stage color so it will cost more to repaint it right. I'd say $300
take it to a good body shop maybe for 100 they can hide it pretty well until you repaint the whole car...sorry to hear about that but it's really no big deal at all compared to other stuff that could happen with a car or to you while in a car

I was with a good friend of mine who's sister has cerbral palsy. We were with his family in a van and made a stop at a gas station so they could get her to the bathroom. Someone had "parked in the handicap spot because it was really packed" and they instead had to try to get her out of the van about 50 yards away by the airpump station. No sooner had they parked and started getting her out when out runs some kid with his coke and cigarettes.

Sorry about your car but please try to change your "habits" and be considerate for the people less fortunate than you.

wait a minute guys, im the victim here remember?? lol

nah, i didnt purposely park in the handicapp spot for this, the gas station was really packed like all spots to the gas station store and all cars were at a gas pump, there was really no other spot i can go to except the handicapp or go on the street which is a fast pace street (40mph)..no way im gonna park on that street and risk having my car get totalled..

and i was only buying lotto tickets, not parking at the handicap because i was too lazy to walk from a farther distance..

and thanks ramy, i feel better for your thoughts, i dont think god was punishing me for this, he was showing me to not park the 7 in busy spots lol that or telling me that female drivers SUCK!!

yeah yanni, i had the feeling it will be that much, well im gonna call a bunch of places tomorrow and try to get free estimates, then show the girl the paper and get the rest of the money to have this painted..

Wow. Am I the only one that thinks you're making a big deal out of nothing here?

It didn't get "Hit", it barely got "Nudged". It caused an "Abrasion", not a dent in your quarter panel. The "Accident" was at 2 miles an hour. And somehow that was enough for you to taste your *** through your mouth and get dizzy and lose yourself?

Damn dude. You need to relax. "**** happens", ESPECIALLY in Jersey, where everyone drives super-aggresively.

And leaving your car on so it doesn't heatsoak? Its a damn car, not a bomb. Turn it off, park the car further away from everyone, and realise that its just a really cool looking piece of aluminum and sheet metal and it can be replaced.

nah actually i think you're the only one

i didnt turn off the car cause like i said, it takes a mere 30 seconds for me to get in, buy the lotto tickets like i been doing for so long, then go back out..thats why i leave the car on, if i know it takes longer than needed, i will turn off the car..

and the car got pushed, i saw the whole car shake like someone was shaking it back and forth, thats why i was soo in shock at the whole thing, on my way out of the door, i was thinking in my mind of how bad this damage it could be, then when i saw the scuffs, i was relieved but still mad at the whole thing..

but like i said, i have never gotten hit ever, not in all my 6-7 cars that i owned..so this is a bit of a shock, i been driving since i was 15, almost everyday and been flawless..and still flawless but to have my car hit in front of my eyes is a bit of a shock..i dont know what to tell you..

it should be alright and not much to fix....plus her insurance should take care of it.

I would just double check the bumper support as that can get frequently cracked

No, I'm sure I'm not the only one. Not everyone else here would hyperventilate if their FD got "tap'd". But not everyone here would leave their FD running outside in a handicap spot either...

Yea, I can understand that. I just saw a long post, figuring it'd be some elaborate story and lead to pictures of a heavily damaged FD. I saw "hit" in the thread title, and you mentioned "Accident" so it eluded to something much more serious. Couple that with your description of how you felt I just found it somewhat ludicrous,....REDICULOUS even.

Ahh well, just get 'er fixed!
