FD gauge cluster: how do you power it OUT of the car?

Trying to diagnose a dash, I followed the FSM and applied power to 2D and grounded 1E and nothing happened

Applied power to 2G (part of the illumination circuit) and nothing....

Doe anybody know how to do it? I would send it out to get tested, but Im in Argentina, and no one does that here.

Any input would be GREAT

I think FDNewbie knows how to do it, but I heard he is a very busy guy

Thanks again guys!

You need to apply power to 4E in addition to 2D. 4E is powered from the 10 amp room fuse. 2D is powered from the 60 amp B1 fuse.

Yep, that's correct. I'm not exactly sure about the main ground, but you can individually ground the lights to test them.

Power 1H 2G 4B
Ground 1G 2E 4G

Thanks for your help!

I case you are wondering, Im installing an FD interior (dash, door skins, etc) into a first gen.

I still need to figure out how to make the speedo/tach work. I do have the main ECU, but I have to figure out what should I feed to it to get a signal to the dash

The FD has a speed sensor on the tranny that feeds the cluster then the ECU. Considering the FB uses a cable drive speedometer, this could be really tricky. Not sure if the speed sensor could be retrofit to an older tranny.

Really?. Thanks, I believed it was the other way around.

I´ll try to retrofit the sender, but if I cant, I heard theres a dakotadigital device that might work. Some haltech users recommend it

Do you guys know if the speed sensor feeds 5volts to 3C or 3A?

Thanks again!

You're trying to go from a cable driven speedometer on a FB to a FD's electronic speedometer, right? Look no further then here: http://www.romdas.com/technical/install/inst-odo.htm

Thread-in and splice-in analog to digital speedometer adapters. Pretty sweet stuff!!

I am going to dig this thread back up since it seems relevant to my needs.

I am going with a full Speedhut gauge system, but I want the new gauges to match my existing cluster's mileage which is out of the car and my car has no way to power it back on since it's a full on stripped out race car project. None the less, I still have the cluster and am wondering how to get the odometer to read out so I can let the guys at Speedhut know what to program my new odometer with. My car only has 13k original miles or so, but I'd like to be accurate.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your question is answered in this thread already.

Apply power to the wires mentioned in an earlier post. Your cluster will be powered up and lit then.
