Hey guys. My friend gave me a call today, and he said he started his fd, and shortly thereafter it died on him. I drove over there in my fc to try to lend him a hand.


I did the unflooding procedure as best as I could remember. Pulled out the Leading plugs, both had gas on them and were black.

Yanked the EGI fuse, and cranked the engine for a duration of about 5 seconds. we did this three times.

when he was cranking it, whitish smoke came from the engine(my senses tell me coolant, yet the plugs smelled distinctively of GAS), after it dissipated, we threw the plugs back in, replaced the EGI fuse, and tried cranking. still no luck.

We then tried push starting, threw it into second and let the clutch out, car bogged to a stop.

Anyone have any other ideas of information that might help? I'd appriciate it!

im haveing the same problem did everything you did check igniter changed coils,wires plugs,changer pfc for stock ecu. it all happened after jdm manifold install BUT!! car sat all winter during install and was only started this week!!!!!!!!!

(car ran perfect when stored last november )

 

If water condensed in the gas tank from storing the car over the winter with a tank that was not full, the fuel tank may need to be drained to remove the water. The water that is already in the fuel lines, etc., will have to be dissipated before it will start.

In addition, the fuel-filter element may swell from the water and cause fuel starvation later, so it may have to be changed.

ok i did leave a full tank and fuel treatment but i will drian and try that!!

 

new plugs too. sounds like the old ones were pretty bad and you were re-using them.

 

The coils are good, I know that for a fact. (got the **** shocked out of me when I did a spark test).

we are going to put some new plugs in it today, and then see how it goes.

Also, whats the unflooding procedure for an FD? I know how to do it for my 13b n/a, but not the REW.

I've also heard of squirting something into the plug holes, any idea of what it might be?

 

ATF. However, I'll bet the car will fire right up with some new plugs.

is it good on all three sides on the rotor?

 

You would have needed to cleaned and dried the plugs before you put them back in. Get some copper 7's just get to git started. After it's warmed up, switch the trailing back to 9's. Make sure that the wire is snapping on to the plug.

Did you touch anything that could have affected A/F? PFC commander, O2 sensor, FPR, Etc?

 

new gas and plugs still nothing iill will be pulling everything back off from the start

 

(things i removed after storage ) turbo's uim/lim then swapped the sensors and injectors to my jdm uim/lim (egr delete).................i will begin tearing it down saturday after H.I.N TO check over everything. i also used all new gaskets ect.

 

Did he touch the map sensor? Check and make sure hoses are connected.
Did he touch the commander? If he is single turbo, did he switch from normal to option1? ...or visa versa
Did you check the O2 sensor? Did it get unpluged?

 

Don't crank for just 5 seconds. Crank until all of the fuel is out of the engine and then start with a set of fresh plugs. If it keeps flooding, test the fuel pressure and check for leaks. One of the injector o-rings on my car had somehow torn and it leaked massive amounts of fuel in my engine. When I did fire it up, about 1/4 gallon of gas shot out my exhaust and it smoked white for a good 10 minutes.

 

We finally un flooded it! we took out the Leading plugs again and did the unflooding procedure with yanking the EGI fuse out, then I squirted a hairs amount of starting fluid into each hole.

replaced plugs, and she fired right up! We then replaced the plugs with a fresh set later that day. Hasn't happened since!

Mine was also a pig to unflood, in the end I used some 10-40 oil into the chambers and rotated the engine via the crank several times. I also used a blow torch on the end of the sparkplugs to make sure all the gas had been burnt off.

Once I'd done that, she fired and idled like crap for a couple of minutes and then cleared her throat and everything settled down

 

I recently just got my car started after it was flooded. I stuck my spark plugs in an oven and let them dry out real good. Car started up but it would not idle with out me pressing the gas, otherwise it would die. Never got a chance to fully let the car warm up because it died on me both times I got it started.

Is it normal for a flooded engine not to idle right after starting it?

 

Mine did the same as yours but it was on two year old fuel, the amount of times it nearly started drove me mad as well

Keep trying, and try my tip of putting some 10-40 oil into the chambers with a syringe. Once its in there, rotate the engine clockwise 3 or 4 rotations via the eccentric shaft bolt and then add some more and do it again. Put the sparks back in and it should start.

Make sure there is nothing white behind it and also if you have tree hugging neighbours make sure they are out as well because the smoke that'll come out when it does start is quite amusing

typically would an HKS Ignition Amp help in this situation? I was going to purchase one soon anyway.

 

The car should not easily flood with the stock system. So you shouldn't use the HKS ignition system as a band-aid fix. Yes, the car will run rough for a little while after it's been flooded. However, if the car keeps flooding, you have other problems (possibly leaking injectors, fouled spark plugs, etc).
