FD door locks
FD door locks
My son wrote me that his driverside door lock pretty much doesn't unlock any more. I did some searching for replacement locks and didn't find any. Does anyone know of a source for locks? thanks..
If you dont mind coughing up for the postage from Australia, cannot recommend Drew Tarrant (sir20b) enough. http://sir20b.com.au/
Thanks Berkyrself. I did a bunch of seaches and only junk came up.
What about the Trunk? I guess he will just have two keys or can it be
changed to accept the new keys? I guess just leave it alone.
thanks

I believe they should be able to give you a lock keyed to your current set if you give them your vin, they certainly can cut keys to your vin.
Ok, I'm retarded...
I need to worry about the ignition not the trunk, its got to be old age....
Is it possible that the problem is the key is worn out, not the lock?
He is able to get the passanger side open, but not the drivers side.
Maybe the driver side is worn a little and compined with the key being worn it won't unlock.

is the problem the lock itself or the fact that when you turn the key all the way counterclockwise to unlock the door it won't disengage the lock?
i found the problem on mine to be the somewhat flimsy rods and mechanism was not allowing the lock to fully disengage. do a search, there are better how tos on this than i can provide, but the essence is the rods flex enough that there is not enough travel available to push the unlock mechanism enough to trip the lock.
there is a fairly simple how to on this that worked for me.

Yea I checked on mine today. The action in the interior door locks in my car are very hard. I think this is due to something needing a cleanup and lube I dunno. I did fix a problem I was having with the exterior door lock not engaging. I just bent it a little straight to increase the reach of the rod and now the door locks/unlocks fine.
I'm only relaying what my son wrote me. I beleive the key doesn't turn and he has bent at least one key and broken another. They looked well worn and then they made a copy of one. Well the copy is then just a bad copy.
I'm thinking that it maybe cheaper for him to try and get a new key made from the VIN. I would guess he should go to the local Mazda dealer for it?
I'm not sure what the common failure is, the key or the lock?
thanks dudes!

But i also couldnt lock the door from outside with the key, but only sometimes. So i put out my lock and cleaned it with WD40. But be carefull when you put out the lock - there is a small metal ball inside, dont lose it. I recommend to put it carefully out, soak it up with WD40 ( or similar ) and put it back together for a try.
I think i have some pictures somewhere, have to search for it...
Ray Crowe is definitely the way to go

One of my other sons removed the lock and said the lock works fine, and the problem is a plastic piece that attaches to the lock. It sounds like its a switch, because it has wires on it. He says it is cracked and moves around a little. I guess this must be something to do with power locks? I would think that the door lock itself would unlock the door. So how do the doors actually work?
thanks everyone!!
thanks everyone!!
It sounds like the piece that broke on mine. If you look in the diagram the arm that is coming off of the back of the lock is what was giving me issues. It is a plastic piece that attaches to a rod that works the lock.

My other son took it apart again and says it electric. There are two wires coming off the back of the lock. The door does not unlock when the keys is turned.
So either a switch or soleniod of some kind is probably bad.

Those two wires should be for the light surrounding the keyhole. The lock mechanism itself is purely mechanical, if the car has actuators they should be down in the body of the door as they do take up some space (at least they do on mine).
OK, thats interesting. I have never noticed it light up, unless the light is burnt out. However what makes the light turn on? I need to find a wiring diagram and check this out. I think I have one on my personal computer.
thanks..
thanks..
I found the drawing ... in the driver side door I see D108 connector labeled "Door Lock Actuator" I see D110 " Door Latch Switch" So no light. The lock is electric.
.... a new key
The lock maybe OK
Something is wrong with the switch or Actuator solenoid. Probably needs a blast of WD-40.

Whenever you pull on the door handle either with it locked or not the opaque ring around the key hole should light up.
