Source for inexpensive new purge solenoids
Just thought I'd update you all on my DIY purge restoration. Since my FD lacked all of the under-hood evap emissions purge components past the hard line nipple on the firewall, I had to do a little reverse engineering to restore the system.
So starting at the intake mani, and following the previously posted FSM diagram, I'll be using one of Dale's Viton check valves to replace that OEM FD check valve. Since the volume of the OEM "catch tank" in the FSM diagram is relatively small, I'm not going to use one at all - that is replaced with hose.
For the purge solenoid valve, I was initially just going to buy a 3-port MAC valve (about $35 on Amazon) and use it with the NO port plugged. The advantage of the MAC valve is I could use any electrical connector (i.e., Deutsch DTM) on its pigtail, so I wouldn't have to worry about finding some oddball OEM connector for the wiring harness had I went with a used FD solenoid (Mazda part # F285-18-741A). Though used FD purge valves are apparently plentiful, I'd really prefer a new part here. But the new FD purge valve ain't cheap - haven't called Ray yet, but online prices for it run around $85 average. So I started looking into similar purpose purge valves from other Mazda's of the late 90s/early 2000s, and found this baby:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/18587339057...Bk9SR9qIiZi2Yg
This one is from 2004 - 2008 RX8's, 2003 Protege's and 2003 - 2006 Mazda 6's, and is just $10 new OEM on Ebay, part # K5T-48-279. The connector looks like one of the common TE/AMP connectors used for fuel injectors and other applications. Will update when I find the part #.

when i put mine together i didn't have the little "Catch Tank" N3A1-13-978, so i didn't use it, and so far nobody has noticed.
the problem is that the solenoid, intake manifold and the hard line all have different diameters, so the hose is a little goofy (it also routes around the coils nicely)
pretty sure the FD purge solenoid, F285-18-741A uses an AMP Econoseal.
now that we're talking about it though, there are a bunch of different solenoids, the one Pete lists, Z504-18-741A looks identical except its got the little bracket.
there is one somewhere that uses 6mm hoses (or was it bigger?) maybe KLG5-18-741? although that one has a high failure rate

This is the connector the stock purge valve uses, which is used a few places on the stock harness. It looks like the one on ebay might even use the same connector. Can't beat $10 for a brand new part.
