FD back up and running after a 10 year nap

Finnaly got my FD up and running after 10 years nap in my garage. Had to replace and bleed the clutch master cylinder which was tough cuz it was right up against a wall and I couldnt figure out how to get enough space to get to the 2 bolts. (I'm on a hill and I parked it as close to the driver side as I could, I wasnt sure if I could get the car back in to my garage if i back it out and its not street legal right now so I cant just leave it on the street.). I ended up jacking up the rear end and pulling the car by hand to the side haha. Who knew these cars were so light weight that a single person can man handle it to the side by hand? Started on the first try (actually I did start it like 5 years ago once) and ran awesome. Still running out the gas without getting on the boost but its hard. I forgot how freakishly awesome these cars are. hHavnt felt anything this good except perhaps a C6 Z06 vette I drove but I didn't own that one. I love this car!

Cool...

I personally would have drained and replaced every fluid in the car before driving it. Once things seem to be happy, I would water treat the engine.

highly recommend changing your fuel filter, and checking you fuel pump sock/strainer. Mine went for a 7 year "nap" and i wont go into detail of the condition when i pulled to check them.

On the bright side, 10 years ago our fuel wasn't polluted with ethanol like it is today.

How are the tires?

I was concerned about the gas, when i last refilled it was 93 octane pure, now its 92 octane E85... kinda scared of the new gas, should i premix with xylene? have not kept up with what you guys are doing as far as that is concerned. should I buy a tank of race gas (VP racing fuel C12 use to cost 5 bucks a gallon, idk what it is now... I use to buy 55 gallon drums of the stuff but that was a long time ago)?

tires are great, 275mm S-03 on the back with less then 1000 miles on them, no cracking or anything like that on the sidewalls, still sticky as hell!

I've not heard much about the octane number being a problem, but definitely storage of ethanol gas is different. The ethanol soaks up water if stored for more than a couple of months. I just use Sta-bil more than I used to.

I had heard the same about acetone for premix (it absorbing water) if not used quickly. this was from before they started puting ethanol in to gas.

Injectors are likely gummed up/leaking after all that time

Probably for the same reason mine has been sitting for 7+ years without a start. RL complications.

But....I still have her. And when I get her back up and running....

id flush every fluid coolant and oil for sure, id also drain the fuel tank and pull the pump assembly and check for rust in the tank, i would also change the plugs and the fuel filter. then on your next fill up run some premix to help lube the seals better and do a steam clean to the motor.

injectors seem ok, well its running like its fine at least for now. I will pull the fuel pump as soon as I burn off more of the old gas (1/4 left in the car which I'd like to run lower, Not exactly sure how to dispose of used gas other then burning it or throwing it on the road and letting it evaporate which aint really good for anyone...)

either way, I have a question for you guys which are good at trannies. I left it in 1st gear and I notice there is quite a bit of slop in the tranny where it doesnt really snap back exactly to center. I can make it do about a 2 inch circle without it really having any stress on the shifter which is worst seeing as its a shorten shifter... It use to be tight and very springy but obviosly I did bad and now its some what loose. 5th gear has always been blown since I got the car (bought it used and it never had a 5th gear I could get into) and I can still get it in to all the other gears fine but it just doesnt come back to center like it use to. anyway to easy fix/remedy this or is it a, just take the damn car into a tranny shop and just pay to get the thing fix sorta deal? I'm not bothering to reg, insure, or get safty check for this car, its just gonna be my run around the neighborhood type of car for now until i get some money under me (just spent about 120k getting my business going. This is after I have to pay back a 360k loan I have for school ( I would have declared bankruptcy but the goverment doesnt forgive educational loans. If I work and make about 150k a year, I'll be lucky to be flat broke in 4-5 years after taxes have eaten away although I'll probally be making only 60-80k a year for the first few years. I'd actually be lucky to be flat broke in 10 years from now if I work full time and I have a DEA licenses!!! I can actually Px cocaine, ketamine, and morphine among a lot of other high end drugs legally and I'll be lucky to be flat broke in 10 years from now while if I went the other way and did it illegally on the streets, I'd be damn near a millionair already! Go figure)... Ok, holy ****, rant mode off. Bottom line is I just don't have any extra money right now for a play toy in my garage which I can still drive around fine; just a little annoyed at the shifter. I once had a FC which sorta had the same problem where the shifter would not center after being pushed to the left for either 1st or 2nd gear and it was a very cheap play toy so I fixed it with giant rubber bands which brought it back to center nicely but I'm refusing to do that with my FD.

personnaly, I'm amazed the damn thing still runs as good as it does for sitting for 10+ years. I though for sure the seals, turbos, one of the vacuum lines in the rats nest would have went to crap but it seems to be runnign just fine. I do have all silicone hoses though which probally helps out with the rats nest and its been in an enclosed garage for 10 years which helps with most of the rust and other possible things. I'm also OCD so everything was nearly new on it when I put her down for a nap.

I'm gonna work on bleeding my brakes as soon as my vacuum bleeder comes in from Amazon.com (yeah I know dot3 and dot 4 will absorb moisture) and I'll be working on the rest when ever I get the chance.
