Is this a MSD system?

Has anyone bought one of these ?

just wondering if its necessary for my mods or if I should look at getting one of these in the future if i plan on going single turbo.

Hmmm, I have heard that the Jacobs is slightly better than the hks twin power, but the hks is an easier install...

I could be wrong here, but I had that stuck in my head for some reason.

Ive got an fc1000, I also picked up a t2 leading coilpack and hooked it up to that, install took maybe 30 minutes and it runs like a freakin champ.

Before I was blowing out my spark and having very bad ignition issues due to boost, but not anymore

I've been using an earlier version of this box for about 10 years already....bought it when I had a n/a FC(overkill! it leaned it out over 7k rpm) and since transfered it over to my FD and eventhough I've never "pushed" it so far it has performed flawlessly! I would buy another one since its cheaper than the hks and so far has been xtremely reliable!

Can I ask stupid question?

What do either of these systems do?

I read the descriptions on the website and it frankly goes over my head. It is a combination of marketing hype and technical jargon that I just don't have the basics down to understand. The only thing that I think I've figured out is that they somehow boost the ignition current to the plugs? But I may be wrong about that.

Anyone want to help out?

My experience with the Jacobs hasn't been positive.

I've burned through two of the older-style units, being left stranded both times. I ran the fc1000 for a while but wasnt impressed, and learned that it's not nearly as powerful as the older jacobs.

I'm now using the HK$ twinpower and absolutely love it......head and shoulders above the oldschool Jacobs. Better throttle response, midrange torque, high rpm pull, smoother idle, you name it.

No problems so far. Spark is every bit as hot as a msd. It's also smaller for tight engine bays and cheaper
They do get hot though. Should be in an area that gets lots of airflow. Mine is in front of the rad fans.

Like Rich says go twin power for your power level! I have the older pro 10 jacobs but i run methanol and need hotter spark. The twin power on my fd works great and friends have it on supras at 1200. h/p and it workes for them too. Just spend the money and get the plug and play harness for the twin power.

Hmmm, so at what point does one 'need' a better ignition system. Im running 10psi with the stock twins and PFC base map, i plan on going gt35r (350-400rw) by next year.
