Fc Manual Rack into Fd Question

Hi:

So I have been google searching and searching using this forum, but I cannot seem to locate the "HOW TO" on the Fc manual rack into the FD. Can someone please guide me to a link or explain what needs to be done.

Thanks in advance.

You can't find one because they're NOT (bolt-in) interchangeable. Also, the main reason why you can't find anything is that the FC Rack has a worse turning ratio then the FD.

The 86-89 GXL, 86-87 Sport, 88-89 GTU, 86-87.5 Base, 87.5-88 SE, 86-87.5 Luxury, 87-91 US spec Turbo, and the 88-89 Vert that were equipped with power steering
the FD is 15:1

Thanks. I only ask because I sold a guy a ujoint from one of my Fcs and he did the same FC Manual Rack conversion on his FD. He said "it is F****** awesome." Figured I can do it too since I have a spare manual rack (from my 87 T2) and don't need or intend on reinstalling my power steering pump/accessories.

He was telling me there was some forum that had a write-up on it and he needed to re-drill the subframe and use different tie rods.

It isn't a direct bolt in, but it is highly possible. I used the FC tie downs after filling, grinding and redrilling the holes to mate to the FD subframe.
I love how mine turned out.
Go for it!

This will definitely come in handy since the FD roller I got needs a new rack, I can just pull my properly converted rack off my FC and bolt it right up.

I believe the brackets need to be slightly modified

Yeah, the pictures were pretty clear. It's no problem since the FC is being parted out.

Haha ok just making sure. Don't forget the tie rod ends too. I just got mine in the mail today and I'm hoping everything will go in without too much of a problem when I put it back in.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping my FC ends will suffice. The car was a LSx swap that was in a light track wreck, so I'm trying to get a 13B back in it and get it rolling enough to get on a boat back to the states. Lucked out and picked up the US spec chassis for $1500. Needs drive train, fenders and front bumper...not too bad, I think.

For an fd? Seems reasonable. When I get the rack fitted I can see how bad of an angle or fitment the stock fc ends have if you'd like?

I can do that for you. Ill see if there is a how-to thread first and if there isn't then I probably could make one?

We can never have too many how-to threads on here.

BTW, you might want to do a sway bar mount brace while you're doing the rack. IIRC you have to remove the rack mounts to install the bar, so you might as well do it while you're in there.

There was some kid selling an fd with no floorboards (he said he was going to weld in aluminum ones ahahahhaha) in Rochester, Minnesota.

I think he wanted 2500 for it. He told me he bought it for 600, but he put a shine kit on it.

It has bondo inside!
