So, I just picked up my first FD, and one of the first things I noticed is that the blower motor, even on high, isn't very adequate. My friend has an FD, and its the same, so I don't believe it to be a problem, just a design flaw. I was in an 03 Eclipse, and also an 07 GMC truck recently, and on high, they will tear your face off. That's what I want. I know its kind of a weird question, but I'm hoping someone else has felt the same, and has some idea of a remedy

i believe that hes talking about the fan control speed, 4 is the highest speed it will go up to. if left on 4 with the AC it will freeze your *** off, it doesnt take much time for these cars to turn to ice boxes.

 

mine blows on my face just fine it even blows my hair a little but i have a lower mileage car so it might be stronger.

 

its obvious you havent experienced a properly working R12 AC system from a 93 FD before.

speed 1 is PLENTY. my face freezes everytime i use it.

 

Hrm, I don't feel like I truly ever get cooled off in my car in the summer. The A/C in my FD doesn't compare to my other cars. Mine was converted to R134a, not sure if that matters.

 

Thanks doofy... My thoughts exactly. My duct temp is on par with most r134 converted cars, but the fan speed seems to be lacking. As I said, I've been in a few cars recently that had such high powered fans, it seemed a bit like overkill, but that's what I feel my FD needs.

 

I have a 92 JDM FD that is r134 and it will freeze your *** off. Its way colder than all of my other cars and everyone that rides in it always comments on how cold the A/C is. On high it blows plenty of air too. I don't know if the JDM car has a different fan motor but I doubt it. I guess you could check the voltage on the high speed fan circuit and see if you are getting low voltage for some reason.

 

I know my fan is spinning on all 4 different speeds so I don't think that is the issue. My wife even refuses to ride in my car on hot sunny days because the inside won't be cool enough "to her standards".

 

where are these mythical Rx-7's with good blower motors coming from? Was there a separate factory? I've never seen one that didn't suck. the blower motors are pitiful on these cars, or at least the ones that have some mileage on them

First thing you should do is check the voltage the motor is receiving at the various speeds

 

My FD's blower motor wasnt that great, then again the car had 120k+ but was in great shape... after a while i stopped caring and ripped the A/C out

 

very true.. 1 gets very cold.. 2-4 i have to fiddel with to work, i have to look at the pfc sensor section and slowly turn the **** till i see the sensor ball light up if i have to go over #1....

but i rarely use the a/c, but i would really like to fix this problem, anyone know of it? kinda happened after i installed my pfc years ago

Hmmm, I have always been happy with my cars blower motor performance. On high I was impressed with how well the a/c works. I have real r-12 in the car though.

Do you guys use the recirculator? That makes a big difference when using the a/c.

And like some of the people have commented, I have had numerous people coment on how well the a/c system works.

OP is your system charged to the proper level?

It's actually not that bad. I did mine after a few days of owning my car, and I was 100% new to the FD so it was easy to learn to do. I just triple checked everthing against the documentation so I knew I was doing it right.

Cut 1 wire. Re-crimp both ends.
Splice or Piggy back off of 2 other wires (+12v & Gnd).
Plug 4 connector ends into relay.

 

Yea, as I said, my duct temps are in spec, and my father in law has a shop with an ac machine that measures exactly what's going in. The problem is a weak blower speed.

 

I wonder is putting one of these aftermarket blower motors will help. I must agree that my car on 4 is like most normal cars on 2.

So for settings 1 through 3 we should try to use a different resistor or modify ours, and if setting 4 isn't fast enough we need to run more voltage or use a different fan motor? Just trying to come up with ideas because I've always been disappointed with my AC system. Although I ditched it 9 years ago for VMIC and have been wanting to put it back in for years, but it really wasn't great when I had it. I have the system all back in and charged, but now I'm running into issues getting the system to tell the ECU I want it on, and the ECU telling the compressor clutch to engage. Either way, I'd like to get more out of the blower motor.

 

This is a good question. My car's blower motor is definitely slower than what it used to be, speed 1 you can BARELY tell if there is any air coming out.

First thing to check is if the blower is full of leaves and crap. 3 bolts and one connector and it drops right out, real easy to do and clean it out.

This is on my list of things to do, but I'm too busy working on other people's cars right now to work on mine .

Pro tip: close the vent under the steering wheel (crotch cooler).

 

I rebuilt my HVAC boxes a couple years ago and the car doesn't sit outside so there shouldn't be anything in the blower. And if I remember right I was never impressed with it's output years ago when it was in either. But there could be some electrical issues or something else. I believe I do have some electrical issues to sort out regarding not engaging the clutch. But of course I'll check through everything. And close the crotch cooler haha. Actually what I might do is try to block off that part altogether next time the dash is out.

 

Is it weird to say after swapping in the rywire engine harness, it seems to blow harder... This is what happened on mine, although nothing measured or concrete.

 

Has there actually been a voltage check on fast blowing ones versus the slower ones to?

 

I'd be interested in seeing those results.
