I'm looking for suggestions on where to start with this. My '94 typically idles around 1100rpm when fully warm. I say typically because I've found two ways to get it to idle normally (around 750rpm). First is to just use the clutch to pull the speed down, and then it's fine until I rev it again. Second is just after it's been sitting HOT. So when everything under the hood is nice and toasty warm it will idle normally until I've been driving for a couple minutes. My first thought is a sticky idle control valve. Any ideas?

 

me too.. if I blip the throttle it goes back down..perhaps its the Throttle Position sensor?

 

I changed the idle air control to no avail....Mine does the same thing..

What do yours pull for vacuum?

 

Do you have a Power FC ECU?

 

No Power FC here. The only engine related mod is a downpipe. Checking the throttle position sensor is on my list of things to try as well.

A normal FD idel is 850rpm some prefer to keep it 900rpm. I had the same problem but with additional symptoms which finally help me root out the problem which could be getting serious if I have not take car of it.

First enging would die out when cool and I reved the engine a bit up. Idel was always rough even when hot from 1000 to 1300. After oil came out from my BOV and it started to increase with time. My exhaust was outputting white smoke especially on start up and even when hard driving or idel. Finally and this what made me understand the problem was that even if oil was coming out of the Bov and burned in the exhaustm, the oil level was increasing instead of decreasing.

This was an indication that fuel was mixing with oil which infact was becoming thinner. The access oil was invading all the rest of my enging.

The cause was that both the intake and even the outtake coolant pipes to the auto choke where blocked with sludge. The auto choke was not coming in to rav out the car so my car was alwasy ideling as if it was still cool. This caused the ecu to pump extra fuel which as causing all the problem which could have gone much worst if I and my specialist did not caught it.

 

I think my problem was the throttle position sensor being slighltly misaligned, so at idle the computer didn't see idle. Since I didn't really feel like getting at the TPS, I thought I'd try something simlpler, so I just adjusted the throttle stop set screw a little more closed. Worked like a charm. It might idle a little slow now, but it's still smooth so I'm happy!
