FAQ for the newbies?

Serious why haven't we created one already? Either that or I can find it here on this forum.

Some of the basics that annoy the crap out of me can be covered in that and not be posted up on a daily basis.

i.e.

How much hp can a rx-7 make on stock turbos

what is common maintenance

how often does the engine last

etc

They'd never bother with it anyway, just like they never bother to search, or hit the newbie stickies.

Being a semi-newb i think it would have been informative. Most of the posts in the archives need to be meticulously searched to find the correct information. Just redirect all common searches/new theads to the faq section, untill a small post count or time period is achieved. Perhaps this could include any pictoral or other write-ups about performing certain tasks or upgrades as well, similar to the archives but better organized.

yes they would bother with it..... ive been pushing this for about a year now but no one ever seems interested. id be willing to contribute to it.... pictorial how to's (all the general stuff), and general information that is constantly asked, as well as comparisons of aftermarket parts to help people decide.

********PLEASE CONSIDER THIS PEOPLE!!! It will clean up the 3rd gen section, it will be very helpful for quick referencing for all of us, will cut down on repeditive newb questions, and will free up the 3rd gen section for more technical/interesting/fun discussions, and maybe we'd see some of the "seasoned" members return (or at least prevent more from leaving)********

i would be willing to contribute to it, and help design/ organize it if needed. it will also be a way to keep the forum new and fresh.... its been getting a little stale these days.

so i beg you, if you want to see this forum flourish, please click this link to see how the miata guys "garage" section looks ------------------------------> http://miata.net/garage/

mods, can we do this, please please please. -heath

P.S. here is an example of two pages on their site in the maintanence section: how to change your tranny oil/ diff. oil for a 30K tuneup -> http://miata.net/garage/trans/everything.html

general info: here are all the important miata torque specs: http://miata.net/garage/torque.html

this is pretty basic stuff, but there are many more complicated procedures and so much more information that we could list in the FD section

As a recent newb, I agree. A FAQ guide would be a great start, also a how to section would be nice

when i was a newb, i know i would have read it. i read a majority of the newbie sticky stuff too. the serach brings up TOO many threads for most people to find what they want. why doesn't it search titles instead of every post inside of a thread? just a question. seems like that would be alot more useful

A lot of new people read the stickies and go through the various sites that are there for newbies but as far as search. With a forum this big you often get hundreds of posts and it's sometimes hard to find the exact info your looking for.

I know I'd use the faq personally. Especially one that has how to's.

ok this similar to what i meant! this is on the right track, but we need better organization to make stuff like this more useable. a long thread with lots of stuff in it is not user friendly, and therefore discourages people from using (or even contributing to it).... and its in an obsure place.

we need a specific "section" or folder in the 3rd gen area, with topics within that also organized into folders. this will make it easy to access, and contribute to.

also, i think for any submissions, there should be a "waiting area" for new posts.... when they get like 10 or 20 "votes" (which will verify the accuracy of the information) the post is then archived in the propper folder for future reference

I think this could work, if everyone just post a link every now and then when they come across something good. However, I'm not sure if the mods can arrange it alphabetically but I think that unless the post are arranged somewhat alphabetically (i.e., keep all the S's together and all the T's together, etc.), it probably won't be to useful.

I do agree that it should be in a less obscure place, maybe a link to it from the regular 3rd gen section would be good.

As for the waiting period, I think that would just slow everything down and I'm not too sure that it is necessary because most will be links to the well known sites or previous post on this site, if something is inaccurate, just use the report button and report it to a mod so they can delete it.
