Fake Brembos on Ebay

Well, sort of. OK, I spoke to Brembo while I was at SEMA a few weeks ago about upgraded brakes for the FD. They told me the only kit they have available was the GT kit = big brakes. Not thinking or maybe still hungover from the previous nights parties, it didn't click that I have read on the forum and on Ebay about these slotted and drilled brake replacements. I got in contact with Lisa (Marketing/Communications) at Brembo about this issue and she emailed me this.

"Absouletly not ours, we do not have that drill/slott pattern even available.

This is our frustration in the marketplace as they are Brembo aftermarket rotors. Still Brembo high quality and safety, however, they are cross drilled and slotted by someone else. This is extremely dangeous, as there is a great deal of r and d and engineering skills that go into the process, not simply punching through the disc, like they are doing.

If you have a good relationship with the forum, I encourage the clarification, as most importanly, we are about safety.

All my best, Lisa"

Some of you may not care, but I've heard about these getting warped and cracking from others on the forum. Just thought you would all like to be informed.

Nick

I've purchased a set of the drilled/slotted rotors long ago off ebay for my z. The guy who sold it to me said that they are real brembo blank rotors, but drilled or slotted by a machine shop.

I wouldn't recommend buying them though, the set i got were not plated, and began to show signs of rust on the edges and near the hub.

This is why I'm going with the 14" AP racing kit!
Does anyone know anything about the HP or HR (Huricane Racing or Performance) kit that Nopi sells for FD's? 6 Pot with upgraded rotorts and calibers, so its says.

You know, currently I'm rebuilding my 93. And except for machine shop work I do all the work myself. And last weekend I just finished my suspension using those fake Brembo rotors. And now I need to spend an additional $500.00 for real rotors! Grrrr! Does anyone know how to legally justify dropping my rotors on this guys foot?

Brembo cadmium plates their high end rotors so they don't rust. There were several people selling Brembo's that appeared to be drilled/slotted after the fact. There is also one guy that zinc plated his rotors so they did not rust.

Caveat Emptor (unsure of spelling)

powerslot also gets their rotors from brembo, and then slot and plate the rotors by themself, I do think powerslot does a better quality work.

thanks for letting us know i almost bought one of those.

so which one would you recommend? slotted vs crossdrilled? which gives you the best extended stopping power? cross drilled i assume... does anyone make good quality crossdrilled sotted rotors?

Rotors

did buy mine on Ebay and have had them on for about 6 months and 5 thousand miles (daily driver) and have had no problems. in today business no one seems to make any of the products they market all seems to put their name on them. if they are made and then cross drilled and slotted not in total agreement that this a bad thing. however i do believe we get what we pay for. and the phrase buyer be ware. so i would be cautious and for me i would more than likely purchase them again.
my $.02 worth.

I got a pair of a slotted/cross drilled off of ebay and I have had no problems with them. Whether they are real brembos or not I would probably buy a pair again...

I've got them too

They are brembo rotors that have been plated, drilled and slotted. I have also had plain brembos drilled and frozen for my Dodge Dakota when the stock rotors kept warping.

I had my work done by www.frozenrotors.com.

Much better than stock and they start with brembo rotors then machine them to your specs..
