Fair price for a 13B-REW core

My friend has a 13B-REW that has 80k miles on it, it was runing before it came out of the car.

Missing from the motor is intake manifold, turbo manifold, and turbos. It still has its front cover, water pump, and alternator.

What would be a fair price to offer him on this motor?

$1000 or maybe a tad higher since it's supposedly a working core.

$1000 is about going rate on core exchanges for blown motors.

Who offers a $1,000 credit for a blown motor?

Just curious, since Hayes Rotary only gave me a $250 credit for my 6k mile 1995 engine that just needed a housing and rotor... and pocketed it. Obviously I would not have given them that motor for only $250 if I had known they weren't going to use it to build my new one from.

That said, I paid $1,100 for a blown core with turbos, and I paid $1,000 for a known good block with medium mileage.

That's basically the core charge for a Mazda Reman. I guess the core is worth $1000 to Mazda.

I sell cores that are good to rebuild for $500-750. That means a motor that isn't JUNK, didn't eat an apex seal and hasn't been overheated to death. Something like a leaking coolant o-ring, bad oil seals, etc.

Thanks for the info, any more opinions? Remember this almost a bare block with the front cover, water pump, and alternator.

Thanks.

i dont see as core as a block with the water pump and alt, front front to back i see it as least having the rear plate to the front cover, oil pan and thats about it. Flywheel and main pulley i dont see something thats would be included. Pettit also has a $1000 core charge on the motor core but $1000 price in the FS section is a Joke i think.

I have a friend who let me have his rew motor to tear down to see if there were any serviceable parts to use in my current rebuild. The motor had been in a fire and there was no compression in the rear rotor. Once apart, the housings which are what I really need, had a little bit of flaking, but were 10000 times better than mine. The plates aren't scored badly either. The motor seems to be in pretty decent shape overall, with possibly a coolant seal being the reason compression was lost.

The question is, what is a fair price to pay for the motor. I don't want to screw him. As it was when I took delivery of her, the motor was probably worth 3-500 tops, but now that she is apart and the condition is laid to bare, what should I give for it?

In my case the motor was in shortblock form. No turbos, front cover or oil pan.
