Failed SMUG Test

I’ve tired almost everything I know to lower my emissions. THC (hrydrocarbon) is 3.27 max 1.2, and CO is 48.8 max 30. The NOx passed. I replaced my plugs w/ new NGKs, replace PVC w/new and replace the EGR value. I cleaned the air filter, changed the oil and filled the tank. I’ve only put about 2000 mile on the car since the last test 2 years ago, which I passed. I have not made any changes to the motor since then. I have about 80k on the car. What’s my next step?

If you failed the SMUG test then you should stop driving your hybrid and smelling your own farts.

(this will make sense to anyone that saw the latest episode of South Park)

Do what Barban said, replace your high mileage cat and it should take care of your emission woes.

Set your idle up to 950 rpm. Make sure that the engine is hot when you take it in. Try again.

My idle is 950 and I live 16 miles from the testing station. It was hot enough. Guess I'll have to replace the Cat. Anyone know where to get a good one at a responable prince?

Try the general parts for sale section and the regional sections. There's always plenty of people with reasonably low mileage catalytic converters. There's also a huge thread with great tips and advice for passing smog in the West section.
