facts about throttle position sensor

i have serched and found a few things but i need to know more.

i know my tps is bad but what i really need to know is, when a tps IS bad, what all will it cause to go wrong? i.e.-symptoms, effects, cautions?

all input will be hulpful.

HAHAHAHAHA ... so you know your TPS is bad, but you don't know what a bad TPS causes?? Start your car, you'll find out.

Well basically when they go bad they either have dead zone in the switch, or they go off the chart on resistance... So the ECU will go from see normal throttle, then zero throttle, then infinate throttle, etc...
Bad tps could do alot of things including very bad stumbles/hesitations rolling into the throttle... stuff like that...

uh, understand the simple stuff, but what i want to know about is the stuff the happens that you cant see, the long term effects and indirect destruction of other parts. also how much does it really effect my cars performance? see, my tps has been bad ever since i bought the car and i dont know how it ran before. all i am trying to do is justify actuallly buying the part or just live with the damn check engine light.

now i hope this sounds like a more valid question than before.

dude just go to the dealership and buy a new one. It only takes a few minutes to install, but make sure that thats your problem.

over time the stumbling/rough running will damage the cats, and also since the ecu doesnt have that input all of the outputs that depend on it wont be right.
